Is there a button in iTunes to say “Stop after playing this song”? – Ask Different

Put the song in a playlist and click the check box off. All the songs in the playlist will have to be clicked off as well.Or easier still have the track as the only song in the play list.

For me, the easiest way to do this is to put all songs in a playlist, then in the playlist (can be “Playlist” view mode, but “Songs” view mode is easier). The video below shows exactly how to do this, but here are te steps:

  1. select all songs with Command-A
  2. right-click
  3. choose “Uncheck Selection” to remove all checkboxes
  4. double click on each song you want to play individually

You cannot create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card. You  – Apple Support

So I gave my mom an iPad. But she doesn’t have a credit card. As having one is not usual for Dutch people, especially for elderly Dutch people. Why would you need one if you can pay anything you require online with your Bank Card?

Well: from an iPad, you cannot sign in to iTunes without first adding a credit card. There is no other way. No bank account (which is very common in Europe). No iTunes voucher. No nothing. This is what you have to do:

If you’ve already created your Apple ID, you’ll need to add a payment method when you first use it to sign in to the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. But you can optionally remove the payment method after you sign in to the store. You won’t be asked for a payment method again until you make your first purchase.

I haven’t even checked iTunes for on her PC, as iTunes is so utterly user unfriendly (for instance you cannot drag-drop music to your iPad from a folder. You need iTunes and I’d need to explain here about all sorts of clouds other than where rain comes from) that I won’t even try to teach her how to use it.

What I finally did is add my own credit card (apparently they don’t do name or address checks), then remove it.

Tip: How to play a playlist one song at a time … – via: Apple Support Communities

It’s obvious if you have seen this once, but it wasn’t clear to me how to play only individual songs from a playlist. Luckily my search got this step by step guide as the first hit:

  1. Create the playlist.
  2. Uncheck all of the check boxes in the playlist (In iTunes for Windows, ctrl click one of the check marks to uncheck all of the checkboxes at once)
  3. Now double click (or select and press spacebar) a song to play it. It will stop when finished because there is no other song checked to be played next.
  4. If you want to change back to normal sequential play, ctrl click one of the check marks again to change all of the checkboxes back to the checked status.

The tip works for both Mac and Windows.

I needed this as part of a pub-quiz so I could finish the questions and answers before moving on to the next track in the playlist.

Restore music and video from iPod: the iPod_Control\Music folder

When you’re not a frequent iTunes user, and recycle computer systems, then every once in a while you will get you in to a situation where you have Music on your iPod, but not on your PC any more.

Whereas iTunes is great at putting music on an iPod, it cannot get it back.

There are numerous paid tools to get the music from your iPod, but doing it manually is not that hard. Below are a few links to get you started, but they all come down to this:

  1. Your iPod has a hidden folder called iPod_Control in the root
  2. Inside the iPod_Control folder is a folder called Music
  3. Inside the Music folder, there are folders named with letters and numbers like F00
  4. Each numbered folder has media (music, video or even photos!) files with a strangely encoded name like B00N.mp3 or 3DUN.m4v with supported media extensions including mp3 m4a m4p jpg gif tif m4v mov.
  5. The media files contain meta data with song, artist, album, etc.

The steps to copy them back

  1. Do not erase your iPod when opening it in iTunes!
  2. Ensure you can mount your iPod as a disk (the “enable disk use” option in iTunes)
  3. Mount your iPod as a disk in Mac or PC
  4. Ensure you can view the hidden files
  5. Copy the Music folder including all subfolders to your Mac or PC
  6. Unhide the Music folder and all Music and Music/F* folders inside it using this chflags trick from Unhiding Unix Directories | Apple Support Communities:
    1. chflags nohidden Music
    2. chflags nohidden Music/F*
  7. Add these to your iTunes library and have iTunes re-generate the correct filenames from the meta-data

If you *do* want to download the free U2 album, but have a hard way finding how to… (via Ask Different)

I had a hard time in iTunes to actually download the (temporarily free) U2 Album Songs of Innocence.

This is probably because most of my iTunes consists of my own CD collection ripped as MP3 files, and the instructions about “clicking the cloud icon” got me in the wrong direction (I assumed cloud icons for each song would appear in the “My Music” Library, but none of the songs showed up that list).

Anyway, via itunes – Free U2 album doesn’t show up in music library, just iPod – Ask Different (see also the picture below, especially the red marked portion):

They are referring to the “Purchased” under the “Quick Links” section on the right of the iTunes Store Home Page. Once you do this “Songs of Innocence” will be added to your “Purchased” playlist on the left.

What apparently happened was that I hadn’t accepted the updated iTunes license agreements yet, so the songs would not added to the library, even though they were “Purchased”.
