These did help me a lot:
- UNetbootin – Homepage and Downloads (tested on Mac OS X Yosemite and Windows 7; works with Knoppix, fails with Alt Linux Rescue)
- OSXDaily – List All Mounted Drives and their Partitions from the Terminal
- Making a bootable USB key from an .iso image on Mac OS X – Borgström ♕ (nice, but one
ddtypo and you hosed your HDD / SSD) - 10 Tools to Make a Bootable USB from an ISO File (lists only Windows tools)
- List All Mounted Drives and their Partitions from the Terminal
- Rescue – ALT Linux Wiki the Write – ALT Linux Wiki tells it should works with both of the below, but they fail as something keeps the Lexar USB stick locked:
In the end: UNetBootin with the knoppix image worked fine. Alt Linux Rescue failed (it copied fine, but it had a kernel panic upon boot).
