Original Administrator Account Does Not Appear During Friendly Logon Method
Posted by jpluimers on 2010/07/02
My Windows XP VM’s all use the classic logon, so logging in as Administrator involves just typing in the Administrator name and a password.
Recently though I had to use a VM with a “Frienly Logon” configuration (the one where you see icons for all available logon users), which did not list the Administrator user.
As a reminder to self: how to logon as Administrator when that account is not visible in the “Friendly Logon” account list.It had been a long time since I had done that, so here the summary of the best Google search results:
- Original Administrator Account Does Not Appear During Friendly Logon Method.
- How to login as Administrator in Windows XP?
To summarize, you got three options:
- Press the Ctrl-Alt-Del key combination twice to get the classic logon screen.
- Boot info safe mode (then all accounts with Administrator privileges are listed)
- Permanently change the logon method from Frienly to Classic
I opted for 1. followed by 3.
