On Twitter, Apple Mis-Intelligence (@singhalrishi27) found out you can now order Mac Mini M4 upgrade SSD parts on Apple Self Service Repair: part numbers and prices below

Posted by jpluimers on 2025/02/05

TL;DR: the [Wayback/Archive] Self Service Repair – Apple Support parts are very expensive; having an expert solder them is way more affordable

Last year, [Wayback/Archive] Official (by_APPLE): Mac mini (2024) Repair Manual : r/macmini already had the part numbers for Mac Mini M4 SSD upgrades which I put in this table (staggered staggered to emphasise the M4 and M4 Pro differences) with prices for the M4 upgrades after receiving back the return credit (which I still need to figure out what you need to return):

Mac Mini M4 SSD upgrade part numbers
Mac mini (2024 with M4) Mac mini (2024 with M4 Pro)
661-43668, 256GB
USD 263.12
661-43669, 512GB
USD 251.12
661-43672, 512GB
661-43670, 1TB
USD 439.12
661-43673, 1TB
661-43671, 2TB USD 748.00
661-43674, 2TB
661-43675, 4TB
661-43676, 8TB

NB: If anyone can provide a Mac Mini M4 Pro serial, I can amend the table with those part prices as well.

It also had these links:

  1. [Wayback/Archive] Mac mini (2024) Exploded View and Orderable Parts – Apple Support which had the SSD module (flash storage) list, but at that time it was not orderable.

Today, Apple Mis-Intelligence wrote [Wayback/Archive] Thread by @singhalrishi27 on Thread Reader App on Twitter with prices based on the Mac Mini M4 with serial numbers W222PJC07K and NX50Q3WTGD:

Apple is now offering repair parts for M4 Macs through their Self Service Repair program, and the list of available parts is quite extensive. This raises the question: can you buy a replacement SSD for your Mac Mini directly from Apple? The answer is yes!

However, there’s a catch – you can’t upgrade the SSD on Base Model; you must purchase the stock configuration. And even then, the prices are shockingly high.

If you have 1TB or Higher you can Go for 2TB or even downgrade you SSD to 256GB.

To make matters worse, Apple requires you to enter the serial number of your device just to check the prices of parts. Why? It’s unclear, but it adds another layer of frustration.

For instance, Apple is charging a staggering $352 for a 256GB SSD module – a bare SSD without a controller. This price is outrageous, especially when you factor in additional costs for the toolkit, which you must return to Apple after use.

In comparison, you could buy a Mac Mini for $499, but replacing just the SSD with the 256GB module would set you back $420. For that price, you’re getting a tiny SSD, which seems like a poor value.

Here are the prices of Apple’s SSD.

@dosdude1 Checkout this crap.
@dosdude1 for your reference here are Serial Number for Mac Mini
Base Model : W222PJC07K
Upgraded to 1TB and 32GB : NX50Q3WTGD

You need a toolkit for it. You can either rent it (see [Wayback/Archive] Self Service Repair Store: Tool Kit Rental) , or order the tools individually.

Via [WaybackSave/Archive] dosdude1 on X: “Apple is apparently now selling storage modules for the M4 Mac mini on their Self-service Repair website. As expected, the prices are exorbitant… The chips needed to upgrade one to 2TB by soldering cost less than the 256GB module here.”
