Chrome/chromium gripe: cumbersome screenshots; Firefox much better (but management hates employees having cancer)

On Firefox, taking a screenshot is just a shortcut away [Wayback/Archive] Take screenshots in Firefox | Firefox Help:
Ctrl+Shift+Son Windows/Linux/Chrome OSCommand+Shift+Son MacOS
Too bad Mozilla also appears to be amongst the bad guys in firing an employee having cancer ¹.
On Chrome not so much and require opening the Chrome Developer Tools which take up precious screen estate, and saves the screenshot in the downloads folder instead of the clipboard. Many guides exist, for instance:
- [Wayback/Archive] How to Take a Full-Page Screenshot
On Mac
1.Alt+Command+I
2.Command+Shift+POn Windows/Linux/Chrome OS
1.Ctrl+Shift+I
2.Ctrl+Shift+PThese keyboard shortcuts will open Chrome’s developer menu. Just type “screenshot” and you’ll see the option appear to “capture full size screenshot.” Simply select this and Chrome will automatically save a full-page screenshot to your Downloads folder! There are more ways, all requiring the Devtools active; the full list of Screenshot features is:
- area screenshot (select an area, then save the file)
- full size screenshot (full page, immediately saved to file)
- node screenshot (a selected node in the DevTools, immediately saved to file)
- full (current screen, immediately saved to file)
- [Wayback/Archive] How Can I Screenshot an Entire Website? : chrome
This feature is now built into Google Chrome! It’s still built for devs so it’s a little tricky to find, but here you go:- Right click the page and open the inspector.
- In the top left of Chrome Inspector you’ll see a little phone icon.
- Hit that and a new black bar will appear on the top of the webpage.
- In the black bar you can pick the dimensions of the screen you want to stimulate (probably want 1920×1080 for a desktop monitor)
- In top right of black bar is three dots, in that menu you can do a full page screenshot.
I’m typing this all from memory so if I’m a little off I apologize.
All cumbersome steps, so there are a few plugins to try:
- [Wayback/Archive] GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture – Chrome Web Store only does full page screenshots, can only scroll them vertically (not horizontally), and cannot copy the result to the clipboard (only saving to file)
- [Wayback/Archive] Awesome Screen Recorder & Screenshot – Chrome Web Store copies visible, full or part of page, but “part of page” (the most interesting feature) is only possible for non-https pages. After selection, the options Copy/Capture/AI-OCR often fail, especially when you have JavaScript disabled for a page.
[Wayback/Archive] Nimble capture – Chrome Web Store can capture screenshots and screen recordings to disk, or new edit tab (which then allows copying to clipboard)- [Wayback/Archive] Page Screenshot – Chrome Web Store cannot screenshot https pages, so fails for the vast majority of web pages
- [Wayback/Archive] Screenshot – Chrome Web Store can only screenshot the visible part of the file, and either save it to a file on disk or to a new tab.
Of the above plugins, I think I liked Nimble capture most, but then it got struck with malware early 2025:
- [Wayback/Archive] Nimble capture Dangerous? : Trendmicro
Today my logging is flooded with warnings that behaviour monitoring blocked access to
api.nimblecapture.com/?s=xxx&v=12.0.0
Anybody else seeing this? As far as I know this is legitimate software. I have users that use it on a regular basis. - [Wayback/Archive] Why Did Nimble Capture Get Removed From The Chrome Web Store? : chrome_extensions
That leaves the last of the above links “Screenshot” as my tool of choice: it gets a screenshot in a new tab, which I can copy to any imaging tool for further modification like cropping.
Not sure if I want to use the successors of Nimble capture which seems to be this one:

- [Wayback/Archive] Web Clipper (Nimbus) – Chrome Web Store
