Tomato by shibby – upgrade procedure and cfg backup | LinksysInfo.org

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/02/24

Reminder to self: [WayBackTomato by shibby – upgrade procedure and cfg backup | LinksysInfo.org:

I keep a text file with the changes I’ve made after a fresh install and I keep the file updated as I make changes.

Re-configuring the router after that takes a bit of time, but it is not that bad. Toastman’s method (here) noted above as well as the methods described here and here can also be used, but I haven’t tried them.

Solved: Stuttering Audio Streaming To Apple TV Via AirPlay – The Spotify Community

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/02/17

[WayBack] Solved: Stuttering Audio Streaming To Apple TV Via AirPlay – The Spotify Community:

Try to disable Wifi multimedia (WMM) from your router’s WLAN settings

For my Tomato USB it was easy as described by [WayBack] Installing AirPlay on Tomato – 2017 Edition [StartupCTO]:

disabling WMM in Tomato. (Advanced Settings → Wireless).

Netgate SG-3100 is an ARM based pfSense Firewall Appliance

Posted by jpluimers on 2019/11/04

By now I should have had plenty of time to try out an ARM based pfSense multi-WAN router like the [WayBack]  Netgate SG-3100 is an ARM based pfSense Firewall Appliance.

So this is a reminder for myself to write down more detailed experiences than the summary at [WayBack]Netgate SG-3100 pfSense Security Gateway Appliance.

It is in the Mikrotik price range, but each time I use those I bump into mysterious RouterOS issues that only I seem to have.

ZeroShell Firewall/Router Linux Distribution Works on x86 Hardware, Raspberry Pi 2/3, & (Some) Orange Pi Boards

From a while back: [WayBackZeroShell Firewall/Router Linux Distribution Works on x86 Hardware, Raspberry Pi 2/3, & (Some) Orange Pi Boards.

I’m anxious to see how much it has grown up by now.

Research list: machine sometimes not visible on LAN

Posted by jpluimers on 2019/04/08

When one of the machine isn’t active for a while it seems to disappear. Even when it’s active some of the machines have intermittent errors pinging it as like every 10-30 seconds one of these ping results appear:

92 bytes from tl-er5120 (192.168.71.1): Redirect Host(New addr: 192.168.71.193)
Vr HL TOS Len ID Flg off TTL Pro cks Src Dst
 4 5 00 0054 05de 0 0000 40 01 644d 192.168.71.108 192.168.71.193

Sometimes even a simple

Request timeout for icmp_seq 6900

So I need to dig into  ICMP “Redirect Host” .

It might be a simple ARP thing like mac mini – Why the different results for ping? Or why is the Time Capsule getting involved? – Ask Different [WayBack] but like usual stuff I bump into is of a more complex kind so I’ve archived at least these:

No more https://www.whatsapp.com/cidr.txt

Posted by jpluimers on 2018/12/11

Not sure when this happened but the CIDR list is no more [WayBackhttps://www.whatsapp.com/cidr.txt:

Dear partners,
Please note that we have migrated the latest IP pools of WhatsApp to Facebook Mobile Partner Portal. Feel free to browse to the Settings page of the portal and download the latest WhatsApp IP pool: https://fb.me/mpp_support
Further IP pool updates are also done through the portal and are no longer distributed via email or through WhatsApp web site.
If you have not yet registered on the Mobile Partner Portal or have difficulties accessing it - please request access through the following form and we'll be happy to assist: https://fb.me/mpp_access
For any technical requests please contact us through the Support section of the portal: https://fb.me/mpp_support
WhatsApp team

In the past it was the place to get the CIDR so you could either block or allow WhatsApp traffic: [earlier WayBack]

It is still widely cited as way to regulate WhatsApp traffic, for instance at these places:

Time to find an automated way to get the replacement list. Maybe the below helps (via [WayBackBlock facebook messenger and whatsApp on Dlink router – Super User)

whois -h whois.radb.net '!gAS32934'

How to configure pfSense as multi wan (DUAL WAN) load balance failover router – nixCraft

Posted by jpluimers on 2018/12/03

This will come in useful one day:

Notes for monitoring at [WayBackMulti-WAN – PFSenseDocs: Gateway Groups

  • monitoring packet loss on ADSL is cumbersome depending on the ADSL distance
  • member down is the easiest to monitor, but on fiber can fail to detect packet loss (the connection seems online, but in fact doesn’t provide traffic)

IPv4 to IPv6 conversion on a load balancer causing rare packet loss

Posted by jpluimers on 2018/11/02

Nice find on not so nice packet conversion: [WayBack] Fun with IPv6 We were investigating packet loss. The loss rate was very low (smaller than 1 of 1000) but as UDP was used, it caused rare but noticeab… – Martin Seeger – Google+

Basically the load balancer could not cope well converting empty IPv4 UDP checksums to IPv6 and back.

Or like Kris mentioned it: [WayBack] Null. In Zahlen: -1., causing a nice set of comments to be posted on short term solutions versus long time forgotten problems.

Skype consumer IP ranges

Since I will likely have to enable Skype in a relatively restricted environment, here are some links that likely will help me getting IP lists to open up:
