Dare Obasanjo on X: “If you’ve ever wondered why most business software sucks, it’s for the same reason as this cartoon…”

[Wayback/Archive] Dare Obasanjo🐀 on X: “If you’ve ever wondered why most business software sucks, it’s for the same reason as this cartoon. The person responsible for buying the software isn’t using it in the way the end users are.

Google Lens found back the original 2019 Russia comic via:

Russian:

  1. Смотри, ему точно нравится эта каруселька
  2. УТЬКИ- Путьки!

English:

  1. Look, he really likes this carousel
  2. Duck – ducky
(literally “Ducks – Paths!”, but it is from a Russian kids song)

The last translation coincides with the portugese one I found on Twitter:

[Wayback/Archive] dov on X: “”смотрч ему точно нравится зта каруселька!” “утьки-лутьки!” algo como “parece que ele gosta mesmo desse carrossel (móbile)!” “gugu-dadá!” ©piterskii_punk”

Note the much duller colouring in this picture and the added compression artifacts.

It originated from the Russian Social Media network VK_(service) and Instagram, although I hard a hard time finding back on VK: currently the site is slow to navigate (at least from within Europe), it tries to force us into using the mobile app even on a desktop browser, and the Wayback Machine renderings lack a lot of the images.

I wasn’t the only one having a hard time. Even in 2019, it was hard: [Wayback/Archive] Anna | @annabrandberg.bsky.social on X: “@ChristophWelcz @NicoleRauch I’m honestly not sure… I saw it on reddit first, and the below link is the oldest hit that I found via reverse image search, although it’s clearly not the original one either. The text under “Users” is pretty illegible, but might say PiterSkii_Punk_Wall?

In the end I managed to scroll back on [Wayback/Archive] Питерский панк all the way to early 2019 and found the original comic at [Wayback/Archive] #комикс #стрип #comics #микрокомиксы #арт #art.. | Питерский панк:

It took only a few days for a (pretty poor type justification and) English adoption to appear: [Wayback/Archive] Я тоже задумывалась об этом 😁 | Маша Иванова

which was before the adoption of the “I love it. Me took!” one above.

In the same thread, a different translation appears:

Look, he certainly likes this mobile. He sure does.

Look, he certainly likes this mobile. He sure does.

Even in Russian, it was quite quickly re-interpreted as a “Смотреть на мир глазами клиента” (English: “Seeing the world through the eyes of the client”), for instance in the redraw at
