I was there a few years before and a few months after this got broadcasted and I am curious to the footage: how does it compare (or differe) with my own experience and why.

Noord-Ierland was lange tijd synoniem met bomaanslagen en geweld. Hoewel er intussen al lang vrede is, knettert het nog één dag per jaar.

Op 12 juli worden er de legendarische Oranjemarsen gehouden en komen de spanningen tussen protestante en katholieke Ieren opnieuw bovendrijven.

Tom gaat kijken hoe het gaat met Noord-Ierland, 20 jaar na het vredesakkoord.

Daar was toen wel een duidelijk verschil merkbaar. Als je ziet hoeveel generaties het duurt voordat het daar tot “only 5″ komt, hou ik mijn hart vast voor de andere brandhaarden/polarisatie in de wereld van nu en afgelopen decennia.”

    • There were only 5 bombing incidents, a decrease from 7 in 2023/24. Belfast experienced no bombing incidents for the first time in 29 years.
    • Casualties resulting from paramilitary style assaults decreased to 24, down from 25 in the previous year and significantly lower than the 58 recorded in 2015/16.
    • Paramilitary style shootings resulted in 8 casualties, down from 12 in the previous year. Only one such shooting was attributed to Republicans in 2024/25, the lowest number since 1995/96.

Is dus ook uit die periode. Vond het destijds wel schokkend om te zien dat er nog zoveel haat en nijd was onderling.”
