Such a cool historic artefact: [Wayback corbosman on Twitter: “Just found this highly advanced drawing of the network setup at HIP97. The ??? probably meant we didn’t have the hardware for it yet.”
It is a nice addition to the existing HIP97 information, of which some is at:
- Hacking in Progress – Wikipedia
- [Wayback/Archive] Hacking In Progress archive of the HIP97 site (via [Wayback/Archive] Hacking in Progress – Monoskop as the original web-site is down and few pages had a Wayback Machine link)
- [Wayback/Archive] Hacking In Progress version of the page after the conference ended.
- [Wayback/Archive] Hacking in Progress 1997 as part of the museological portfolio of the original we-site designer: [Wayback/Archive] Jolie Fraanje Martin van der Klis, portfolio, curriculum vitae.
- [Wayback/Archive] Hacking in Progress 1997 – YouTube (great documentary with lots of interviews and live usage of the HIP97 web-site and of course Jolt Cola: early use of the now ubiquitous energy drinks)
This is the diagram of the unique network [Wayback/Archive] corbosman on Twitter: “@bwgveer @Quux_NL The fact we were able to bring 6mbit into a field in the middle of no where in 1997 (the era of dialup) was quite a feat.”:
With the exception of [Wayback/Archive] May Contain Hackers 2022 (MCH2022), these events were always in the same summer as the Wereld Muziek Concours – Wikipedia of which I participated most in the period 1989-2017.
That particular summer, I didn’t: I spoke at a conference (see [Wayback/Archive] Conference Report: 8th Borland Conference 1997, Nashville) which tool lots of time to prepare, then wound down during summer holiday at my best friend’s place near Bern, Switzerland.
I did keep an eye on all the hacker events, so I was really glad to visit [Wayback/Archive] MCH2022 for one afternoon with my emergency bag as back then the LAR syndrome after all my cancer treatments was still very much limiting what I could do each day.
