The Meinl TMT1B-BK Tambourine on the MC-TH Tambourine Holder: use Reece Cotton Tape makes it fit perfectly
Posted by jpluimers on 2026/02/09
I combined these two Meinl percussion products
- TMT1B-BK Traditional Hand Held ABS Tambourine, Dual row, Black, Solid brass jingles
Has a product page at [Wayback/Archive] TMT1B-BK – Meinl Percussion – The Modern Percussion Brand – Meinl Percussion
- MC-TH Tambourine Holder
Not listed on the Meinl site as a product page, but still in their 2024 price lists, for instance: [Wayback/Archive] meinl.de/content/percussion/service/downloads/price%20lists/Meinl_Percussion_EUR_2024.pdf [Wayback PDF View/PDF View]
After about 10 years of use, the foam handle of the tambourine started deteriorating, so I already had replaced it with Reece Cotton Tape (a grip tape for instance used with hockey sticks).
Last year, I added more grip tape to make it snug fit the MC-TH Tambourine Holder as without grip tape (even with foam padding), that would be a way too loose fit.

where I added this review:
Very nice bright sound; loose foam padding: replace with grip tape (also for better fitting MC-TH)
Got it 15 years ago. The brass jingles make for a perfect bright sound: easy to get loud and quiet enough, and not rusting with outdoor use (unlike the aluminum and steel jingles).
I replaced the foam padding with grip tape¹ for three reasons:
A. the padding is way too loose for accurate playing
B. the padding deteriorates over time, see the first picture
C. the MC-TH tambourine holder² fits very loose with either the foam padding or no padding at allHaving grip tape around the handle solves all three problems: see the second picture.
¹ I used Reece Cotton Tape for this from www.reeceaustralia.com/de/889800-8000-baumwolle-griptape as from sporting I knew this lasts very long, but any good grip tape will do wonders
² MC-TH tambourine holder at www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B0007ZEY9Q - [Wayback/Archive] Meinl Percussion Tambourine Holder Halterung – Halterung für Tamburin – Mit Gummipolster – Stahl, Verchromt (MC-TH) : Amazon.de: Musical Instruments & DJ

where I was a bit afraid of because this review:
I’ve been looking for something to mount a tambourine onto so that I can hit it with my hand while playing congas. The description of this on meinl’s website implied that this would be perfect for that. However, there is no way to put the tambourine on tightly. The tambourine kind of just hangs on the pegs, and can easily change position or even fall off when hit. The pointed pegs are also dangerously close to the tambourine head.
I was able to make the tambourine secure by tying it down. But it isn’t perfect out of the box.
but I added this review after applying the grip-tape:
Works well when you put grip tape (I used Reece Cotton Tape) on the tambourine handle; pegs to sharp
I already had a black Meinl TMT1B-BK Hand Brass Jingles Tambourine¹ for quite a while, but sometimes wanted to use it together with other percussion instruments like a cow bell or congas.
This required mounting, so I found the MC-TH tambourine holder which can be mounted on a percussion stand or rack.
Out of the box, there are two major drawbacks of the MC-TH:
A. that the pegs have very sharp tips. It would be a lot safer when the tips were rounded.
B. the pegs are slightly to far apart for snug fitting hand held Meinl tambourines: rubber around them would help a lotI fixed B. by re-padding the handle with grip tape² (see the attached pictures) which solved three issues of the TMT1B-BK tambourine:
A. the padding is way too loose for accurate playing
B. the padding deteriorates over time, see the first picture
C. the MC-TH tambourine holder fits very loose with either the foam padding or no padding at all¹ TMT1B-BK Hand Brass Jingles Tambourine at https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Meinl-Hand-Brass-Jingles-Tambourine/dp/B0007XM3HS

That made for a nasty split which I had to work around.”
