I like how MaylorTaylor formulated his question around this topic on superuser:
“USB Deivces Disabled: unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices.“
Basically he regression tested many permutations of devices, cables, ports, rebooting, etc.
I had a similar problem, and found it hard to track down as it was intermittent. In the end it was not 1 but 2 USB cables being not completely reliable.
So the warning can use some improvement:

fseventer is a great tool for investigating Mac OS X file system events. Like many low-level tools, it requires admin privileges.
This is apparent through the use of the tool “fseventer” which monitors what files on your hard drive are being accessed.

Thanks User Chris Page – Stack Overflow for answering on StackOverflow:
Some quotes of his answer:
As of Mac OS X Lion 10.7, Terminal includes exactly this functionality as a Service. As with most Services, these are disabled by default, so you’ll need to enable this to make it appear in the Services menu.
System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > ServicesEnable New Terminal at Folder. There’s also New Terminal Tab at Folder, which will create a tab in the frontmost Terminal window (if any, else it will create a new window). These Services work in all applications, not just Finder, and they operate on folders as well as absolute pathnames selected in text.
…
In addition, Lion Terminal will open a new terminal window if you drag a folder (or pathname) onto the Terminal application icon, and you can also drag to the tab bar of an existing window to create a new tab.
…
Finally, if you drag a folder or pathname onto a tab (in the tab bar) and the foreground process is the shell, it will automatically execute a “cd” command. (Dragging into the terminal view within the tab merely inserts the pathname on its own, as in older versions of Terminal.)
…
You can also do this from the command line or a shell script:
open -a Terminal /path/to/folderThis is the command-line equivalent of dragging a folder/pathname onto the Terminal application icon.

NameChanger cool visual tool to do pattern based mass-renames on your Mac.
Needs OS X 10.6 or better (Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks), though previous versions that are still available support all the way back until 10.3 (Panther).

Besides the two solutions to the Show missing hard disks in the Finder sidebar problem, I also learned this shortcut today:
open a Finder window and press Shift-Command-C to go to the top level of your computer
Thanks Tophler Kessler!

I had a hard time in iTunes to actually download the (temporarily free) U2 Album Songs of Innocence.
This is probably because most of my iTunes consists of my own CD collection ripped as MP3 files, and the instructions about “clicking the cloud icon” got me in the wrong direction (I assumed cloud icons for each song would appear in the “My Music” Library, but none of the songs showed up that list).
Anyway, via itunes – Free U2 album doesn’t show up in music library, just iPod – Ask Different (see also the picture below, especially the red marked portion):
They are referring to the “Purchased” under the “Quick Links” section on the right of the iTunes Store Home Page. Once you do this “Songs of Innocence” will be added to your “Purchased” playlist on the left.
What apparently happened was that I hadn’t accepted the updated iTunes license agreements yet, so the songs would not added to the library, even though they were “Purchased”.

Most things are simple when you know how to do it.
In this case it was to move the Dock to a different monitor (or to restore it to your main monitor when you accidentally moved it to a secondary monitor).
TbonesTech explains it in the below video, and it is this simple:
On the monitor on which you want the Dock to appear, move the mouse to the bottom of the screen.
Then wait a moment for the Dock to move to that location.
It works in Mavericks. It might work in older versions as well, but I’ve not checked that yet.

Fun project with potential: pickhardt/betty that was pointed to me by Ilya Grigorik – Google+.
Betty is a natural language (for now: English based) front end for tools like curl, find, wc, whoami, find, etc.
It requires ruby, and runs on *nix or Mac OS X (where it uses osascript for iTunes).
