TFS folder compare in Visual Studio 2005
Posted by jpluimers on 2010/06/04
Recently I had to do some work in Visual Studio 2005 and TFS 2005.
I missed the “Folder Compare” feature on one of my machines, and I was sure it was on one of my others.
This feature is standard in Visual Studio 2008. A very handy feature indeed :-)
Then this post reminded me to install the Team Foundation System Power Tools.
Since I was not sure if the TFS 2010 power tools would work nicely with Visual Studio 2005, I went through my archives and found these URLs:
- http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa718351.aspx – old info page; is now defunct
- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7324C3DB-658D-441B-8522-689C557D0A79&displaylang=en – old download page: still works
- http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/f/6/bf65527b-2156-4e85-85e5-04a6118f1a5f/tfpt.msi – direct download: also still works
Note that these TFS tools also need the Domain-Specific Language tools; you can download those here:
- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=693EE22D-4BB1-450D-835C-59EEBCB9F2AE&displaylang=en – download page
- http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/f/a/bfa01803-97f2-4b9e-9751-3ea7789c9b8b/DslToolsRedist.exe – direct download
So I installed this version of the power tools, and can do a folder compare again.
