    That’s why we used to buy Hitachi drives by the dozens. Now we buy Seagate, and my impression is that they are less reliable, but we don’t have any statistics on that.

    +Thomas Mueller for mobile I used to exclusively buy HGST.
    Now I’m mixing Seagate with Toshiba. Though I had a P300 coming in kind of DOA (failed within 10 hours) but luckily I do burn-in tests.

    Toshiba acquired HDD business from Fujitsu in 2009.

      That too (and Fujitsu both had their own drives and a cooperation with Siemens). And Toshiba acquired the 3.5 inch drive business from HGST (which acquired the IBM HDD division quite a while ago) too. I used to have those IBM drives (both 2.5 inch and 2.5 inch) in the past (but not the ticking one).

      Lot’s of things have been going on in the HDD business over the last decades.

    Apparently HGST http://www.hgst.com is a Western Digital company.
    I’m glad how good A7K2000 perform in RAID.
