Simon Stuart yesterday posted a very interesting post on G+ that explains on this (edited) topic:

I just want to summarize the points I raised, and some of the conclusions I’ve come to having been working with rendering in FireMonkey since the end of June this year.

    Just an old Delphi developer that visits from time to time and watched the movie Austin Powers.

    The GBs don’t bother me. I want all the features I can get. I’m into visual development not hand coding so I’ll take as many components as they’ll give me.

    How’s things? I’ve just started messing with XE7 and I’m finding the vision for the product is really good. Some polish over the next year will do good. But all in all a tool that let’s you dev for multiple platforms via one code base is great!

      I’m doing well (: Which Rick are you?
      XE7 is a really nice step, but now they really need to do something about installation size. 50+ gigabytes required to install is a bit much (especially when you have many versions installed and are on SSD)
