Remote VPN to Fritz!Box from Mac OS X: don’t forget to set your Group Name to be the same as the User Name

With en empty Group Name you get this:
The bad thing is: the Fritz!Box will not tell you this in any of the logs.
So don’t forget to set the Group Name to be the same as the Account Name in the ….:
Then you can successfully connect:

Reminder to self when setting up a new VPN connection from a Mac:
- Add a new network
- At
Interface, chooseVPN. - At
VPN Type, chooseCisco IPSec. - At
Service Name, choose a short name for the service (wide names won’t fit in the menu or list of network connections). - Press the
Createbutton to continue. - At
Server Addressenter the IP-address of the VPN server. - At
Account Nameenter theAccountof the Fritz!Box VPN connection. - Press the
Authentication Settingsbutton to get theMachine Authenticationdialog. - At
Shared Secretenter the secret of the Fritz!Box VPN connection.. - At
Group Nameenter theAccountof the Fritz!Box VPN connection. - Press the
OKbutton. - Ensure the
Show VPN status in menu baris checked. - Press the
Applybutton.
