An important conference session to watch here is about Nebraska. Yes, that’s not the state of Nebraska itself but about the [Wayback/Archive] 2347: Dependency – explain xkcd mentioned “A project some random person in Nebraska has been thanklessly maintaining since 2003”; the actual comic is below the post signature.

So be sure to in fully watch the half hour session [Wayback/Archive] “Quantifying Nebraska” – Adam Harvey (Nbpy2024) – YouTube which is mainly about

How can we find these projects and ensure that their maintainers get the thanks and — more importantly — the resources they need?

The final remark there (numbers aren’t actually everything) is really important. Use them as a guidance to assess both your dependencies, and the projects you deliver yourself: lots of improvement to be gained there as well!
