Malloy is an experimental language for describing data relationships and transformations. It is both a semantic modeling language and a querying language that runs queries against a relational database. Malloy currently connects to BigQuery and Postgres, and natively supports DuckDB. We’ve built a Visual Studio Code extension to facilitate building Malloy data models, querying and transforming data, and creating simple visualizations and dashboards.

Malloy is an open source language for data which integrates query and semantic modeling. A data scientist can start using Malloy, and in an afternoon be generating complex useful queries which would have been nearly impossible to write in SQL. (2/3)
In addition to the VSCode plugin for developers, we have plans for end users, and data engineers. Our approach of integrating transformation, modeling, and query, has something to help everyone who works with data be happier and more productive. (3/3)
