13 Things No One Tells You About 3D Printing as a Beginner – YouTube

Posted by jpluimers on 2026/04/28

[Wayback/Archive] 13 Things No One Tells You About 3D Printing as a Beginner – YouTube only had a numbered index, so I commented the context index:

Most tips equally apply to Bamboo A1 as well as other printer

  1. 1.
    1. 1:15 Let your plate cool before taking the prints off it (otherwise you will get warping, not limited to long thin prints, which is hard to undo)
  2. 1a.
    1. 2:05 Lift the plate of the printer and offset it mostly outside of the hot plate;
    2. 2:20 use a desk fan for cooling
  3. 2.
    1. 2:45 Be careful with sharp scrapers to prevent scratches
    2. 3:05 ; keep it as flat as possible to the plate surface.
  4. 3.
    1. 3:55 You can cancel specific (failing) objects from printing during printing
  5. 4.
    1. 5:00 Do not touch the build plate, no matter what; clean plate from skin oil in your sink with water and soap, then let it dry.
  6. 5.
    1. 5:40 Remove the cap before cutting the lubricant tube
  7. 6.
    1. 6:00 Patience is a virtue: slow down printing to gets less failed prints
  8. 7.
    1. 6:40 Dry your filament;
    2. 7:25 use a filament dryer like Chitu E1
  9. 8.
    1. 7:35 3D printing is an expensive hobby, especially accessories, materials
  10. 9.
    1. 8:30 A 1kg spool looks a lot, but isn’t;
    2. 8:45 buy in bulk of the same colour
  11. 10.
    1. 9:45 (related to 8.) it also requires a lot of space, both work area and storage area (raw materials and prints!)
  12. 11.
    1. 10:20 You need both a poop chute and a poop deflector: larger is better
  13. 12.
    1. 11:15 Use a real CAD tool instead of Blender (shaper 3D or onshape are better)
  14. 13.
    1. 11:45 3D printers are not set and forget;
    2. 12:10 lubricate the Y-axis often;
    3. 12:20 trouble shooting and fiddling can take lots of time
  15. 14.
    1. 13:00 bed leveling and calibrating filament flow takes time and effort

Regrettably, list style style="list-style: none;" fails, but luckily, style="list-style-type: none;" succeeds. Wish WordPress was more consistent in their support.
