Zaterdag na de exercitie van Adest Musica nog even de instrumenten terugbrengen naar het Onderdak liep iets uit.

De dame achter me had 40 centimeter meer nodig…

Gelukkig niemand gewond.
En gelukkig zijn we beide goed verzekerd.
Zij moest vannochtend om 06:00 voor haar werk al in een ziekenhuis in Utrecht zijn, met vervangend vervoer.
Ik heb ook vervangend vervoer, en met dank aan Karel van Breda (van Mitsubishi Polderman), kon ik meteen mijn auto omruilen: ze nemen me alle ‘zooi’ uit handen.
Kan ik met een gerust hart komende week een kwaliteits workshop geven op de Entwickler Tage 2010

Phone SPAM: Random Digit Dialing

Just learned something new this evening: ‘Random Digit Dialing’.

A few minutes ago, I got called on an unlisted phone numberby a Dutch company offering money and a kind of lottery mechanism if I was going to take part in their surveys.
In other words: phone SPAM.

They call with a shielded phone number.
So there is no way I can distinguish them from friends that do have a legitimate reason for having an unlisted phone number.

The company that called told me that the only way to avoid these calls was to list all my info that they should not contact me at in some central database, even if the info was already unlisted in the first place.
The world up side down!

And to top it off: Now that they have contacted me, they have the phone number, so I’m bound to be called there again by them.

Foto’s speciale dienst “Kerk der Friezen” online

I found back one of my earliest mail messages: it is dated back in februari 1989.

Wow – ain’t search engines nice!

Today, messages like those seem totally irrelevant.

But back then, getting in touch with other people through email could be a real challenge.

The internet was forming (out of UUNET, DECnet, BITNET, Usenet, EARN, ARPANET and others), and not everything was completely interconnected yet, let alone connected on-line 24/7.

Camtasia Studio and Snagit available to MCTs FREE – Microsoft Certified Trainers Group: News Discussion | LinkedIn

If you are a Microsoft Certified Trainer like me, then you can get a free (as in gratis)  license key for Camtasia Studio and Snagit from TechSmith.

A quote from what Tjeerd Veninga wrote in this LinkedIn MCT group message:

From: Tjeerd Veninga TechSmith’s Camtasia Studio and Snagit are available to MCTs now FREE of charge. Simply go here http://www.techsmith.com/MCT and request an activation key.

A few MCT’s thought they didn’t receive their activation mail, but in fact it got in their SPAM box.

The activation mail will be sent from evangelists@techsmith.com, in my case from the host 72.52.191.4, hostmx01.techsmith.com, so make sure your anti-SPAM measures allow for that.

Note you need new activation keys for each new release full version of Snagit/Camtasis.

Foto’s van KatwijnBinse Truckrun 2009

Zaterdag was de jaarlijkse KatwijkBinse Truckrun: een evenement waar gehandicapte mensen als bijrijder in een Truck (97 stuks!) of Bus (3 stuks) een rit van ongeveer 4.5 uur mee mogen maken.

Het festijn begint met een kennismaking tussen de bijrijders en chauffeurs, foto sessie, groepsfoto, lunch en dan de hele rit.

Reuze gaaf, het gaat de halve bollenstreek, een stukje Leiden en een stuk kust door.
Vertrek en aankomst zijn op het voormalige Marine Vliegkamp Valkenburg.

Mijn broer Martijn (met een groene body warmer op een aantal foto’s) was een van de bijrijders, en ik heb een leuke camera, dus deze keer foto’s gemaakt.

De glimlach van bijrijders, chauffeurs, medewerkers en kijkers is onbetaalbaar!

Adest Musica flyer for World Music Contest 2009 entry

Menno de Jong created a paper flyer for the World Music Contest 2009 entry that our marching band Adest Musica is going to perform.

Like the new truck on the right, it perfectly fits the theme “the Musketeer”, and reflects our journey to the WMC in Kerkrade.
April 30 in Ede was part of that journey, and we regret that the release could not take place: the tattoo on which we would have performed got cancelled due to the attempted attack on the Royal Dutch Family that day.
However, the parade in Ede that day did take place, so we were able to show the public our new marches.

Performed @ Bloemencorso Bollenstreek 2009 (Flowercorso 2009)

Yesterday, the Senior Band of Adest Musica (the marching band where next year I hope to celebrate my 30th membership anniversary) participated in the 62nd edition of the Flower Parade in “de Bollenstreek“.
(Actually this is should formally be called “de Duin- and Bollenstreek”, as the complete “Bollenstreek” also includes two more regions in North Holland, and a few smaller areas on the South Holland islands).

The Senior Band has brass and percussion (no woodwinds, though the Stage Band orchestra part of Adest Musica has them).

It will compete during the World Music Contest 2009 in Kerkrade, so this was a great opportunity to show the public our new marches that we are going to play at the WMC: “Moving Force” and “to Fight and Win” (sorry Dutch link only) as well as the introductory march to the show “Up is Down” that bridges our previous show “Legends of the Seas” to the new show “the Musketeer”.

At the flower corso, also our new truck themed “the Musketeer” as well, click on the picture on the right to see an enlarged version.
