A few notes on Google Reader replacements that I’m testing

Almost 3 months after the Powering Down Google Reader announcement, most Google Reader users will have been looking for alternatives.
If you were whining, Stop whining about Google Reader, then take some action.
Before switching away from Google Reader, be sure to export the data through Google Takeout then download the export.

Until early may, I was waiting for Announcing Digg Reader to become a real reader, but gave up.
Right now I’m experimenting with a couple of replacements, so here are some notes:
Feedly
- is available as a Feedly Google Chrome extension,
- runs as a Google Chrome service,
- has apps for iOS and Android,
- has a Google Reader import function through the “Connect to Google Reader button”
- supports keyboard shortcuts/hotkeys like i and j.
- auto-marks each viewed article as “read” (I don’t like that, but you can change that in the preferences)
- does not seem to have the “New in your subscriptions” feature that Google Reader has
- has a nice index overview
- only shows “age” of a post, not the post date
- does not allow drag/drop of feeds under categories: use the organize feature in stead.
Be sure to turn of SSL enforcing tools (like KB SSL Enforcer or HTTPS Everywhere) on the wwww.feedly.com domain.
Otherwise
- http://www.feedly.com/home#welcome will point to https://www.feedly.com/home#welcome, and you will see an eternal

- http://www.feedly.com/ will point to https://www.feedly.com/ where it should redirect to http://www.feedly.com/home#welcome

- Looks very similar to Google Reader.
- Imports OPML files, but not which posts are read/unread.
- Has a truckload of keyboard features.
