Is uBlock Origin Lite an alternative to keep using Chrome with manifest V2 deprecated?

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/05/31

Having been a avid uBlock Origin user since when it came out in 2014 even before both Adblock and Adblock Plus headed over to the dark side.

I need to check out if [Wayback/Archive] uBlock Origin Lite is good enough now that Google is phasing out Manifest V2 (on which uBlock Origin and other ad blockers depend to provide full functionality).

When it isn’t, I might switch to Firefox or Brave as it should still support Manifest V2 as per

Firefox for instance has some drawbacks with input handling when editing WordPress posts which Chromium based web-browsers (including Brave) don’t have.

DHL Verpakkingtips – YouTube

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/05/31

Hopefully a newer and more reliable “Computa Pranksta” mouse jiggler device will ever be released

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/05/30

For my link archive as this was a cool idea, but for many their device didn’t last that long:

[Wayback/Archive] ElectricRCAircraftGuy/eRCaGuy_ComputaPranksta_Support: Public support for my “Computa Pranksta” mouse jiggler device I sell on Amazon and elsewhere.

This device is a mouse jiggler. It keeps your computer awake. It can also be used to have some fun with your friends (please don’t take it too far–it’s meant to be used in good, friendly gest–not for any type of malicious purposes).

Notes:

Links on those USB Mouse Jigglers below, but first some links on the Computa Pranksta:

Stephan Kämper: Processing a Number of Image Files – Seaside Testing

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/05/29

I have a hard time remembering all those ImageMagick parameters, so I was glad that Stephan posted this: [Wayback/A] Processing a Number of Image Files – Seaside Testing

AI won’t concur the world for at least a while: searching for a pipe in Google Search

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/05/28

No matter if it has switched to AI or not, Googl Search will show the “not a pipe” image first.

[Wayback/Archive] William Gerrard on X: “Google is so broken that the first image it gave me for a pipe is something that is not a pipe 🙄 “

Some pCloud links

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/05/27

For my link archive (Swiss pCloud is GDPR conformant, has European servers in Luxembourg, supports Windows/MacOS/Linux/Android/iOS and various browser extensions).

Before the lists of links: note that cloud storage is not a back-up (despite many of them trying to lure you into thinking they are), so note two things:

  1. Backup stuff in multiple places.
  2. A backup is only a backup if you can prove that a restore from backup functions well.

Lidl Refill station: helaas alleen voor navulverpakkingen wasmiddel/wasverzachter, niet voor de originele flessen

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/05/24

DNS Checker – DNS Check Propagation Tool

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/05/24

Not that long ago I learned about [Wayback/Archive] DNS Checker – DNS Check Propagation Tool:

CHECK DNS PROPAGATION

Recently changed your DNS records, switched web host, or started a new website: then you are at the right place! DNS Checker provides a free DNS lookup service to check Domain Name System records against a selected list of DNS servers located in multiple regions worldwide. Perform a quick DNS propagation lookup for any hostname, and check DNS data collected from all available DNS Servers to confirm that the DNS records are fully propagated.

I wish I had known it before as it is a great tool to verify DNS lookups from around the world.

For my link archive (A and SOA records are the most important to me):
