Het verbond van verzekeraars vind de MobielSchadeMelden.nl een waardige vervanging voor een niet installerende/werkende App

Posted by jpluimers on 2016/04/08

Solved: Android Play Store error 926 while downloading new apps

Posted by jpluimers on 2015/11/25

I had this a while ago on one of my Android devices: an error 926 while downloading apps from the Play Store.

After searching, the only relevant solution I could find is in the below youtube video. These are the steps to resolve the problem:

  1. Reset the “Download Manager”
    1. Go to “Settings”
    2. Click “Apps”
    3. Click “All” (it will often not show up under “Running”)
    4. Click “Download Manager”
    5. Click “Clear cache”
    6. Click “Clear data”
    7. Reboot your phone
  2. Reset the “Google Services Framework”
    1. Go to “Settings”
    2. Click “Apps”
    3. Click “All” (it will often not show up under “Running”)
    4. Click “Google Services Framework”
    5. Click “Clear cache”
    6. Click “Clear data”
    7. Reboot your phone

For some users, just resetting the “Download Manager” might fix the 926 problem. I had to reset “Google Services Framework” as well. Others had to reset the “Google Play Store” app.

These were the circumstances I encountered the 926 problem:

  1. Brand new device
  2. Added Google account
  3. Performed the first firmware updates
  4. Added some apps from the web based Google Play Store
  5. After successfully installing some apps, the device would show error 926

After fixing the 926 error, I installed all apps using the Google Play app which then went fine.

Convoluted: moving your WhatsApp history to a new phone

Posted by jpluimers on 2015/11/21

Not without reason there is a FAQ: How do I move my chat history over to my new Android phone?

Since Helium didn’t restore the WhatsApp settings and Android File Transfer refused to paste large files to the new Android phone, this is what I did

  1. On the target phone:
    1. Uninstall WhatsApp on the new phone
    2. Delete the folder in /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp
  2. On the source phone:
    1. Follow the WhatsApp back-up steps in the above FAQ link
    2. Zip the folder/storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp
    3. Transfer it to DropBox using GhostCommander and the GC DropBox plugin
  3. On the target phone:
    1. Transfer WhatsApp.zip from DropBox
    2. Unzip it to the folder /storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp
    3. Install WhatsApp
    4. Restore the backup

Cool: Vysor screen sharing by Koush

Posted by jpluimers on 2015/08/25

Esc: Back button; F1: Menu button; Home: Home button.

Esc: Back button; F1: Menu button; Home: Home button.

Really really cool!

Vysor (by Koushik Dutta aka Koush) lets you not only share and control your Android device screen from your local Chrome browser, but also remotely to others having a Chrome browser with Vysor installed. And Vysor gives you full ADB access to your Android device.

Some links to get started:

To get started:

  1. Enable ADB on your Android phone.
  2. Connect your Android phone over USB to your computer.
  3. Start Vysor.
  4. Connect.
  5. Enjoy.

After connecting over ADB, Vysor sideloads the Android code to share both screen and input. So besides viewing your screen, you can then control it.

Of course your mouse works, including scrolling. And the keyboard for entering text.

There are also some special keys:

  • Esc: Back button;
  • F1: Menu button;
  • Home: Home button.

Android: Find your Phone from Chrome – alternative to Android Device Manager

Posted by jpluimers on 2015/04/17

In addition to the 1.5 year old Android Device Manager option to find your phone as of yesterday you can now also perform aFind My Phone from Google Search.

So you can now use these URLs to find your phone (or tablet):

For both you need to be logged in, so if you have 2-factor login requiring your phone, you’re out of luck (;

And it works only for Android, but does not work on Android (at least not on my KitKat powered phone).

Add an account to use Google Play on your device: can take a while to show up.

Posted by jpluimers on 2015/03/13

It might look simple to Add an account to use Google Play on your device – Google Play Help.

But it can take quite a while for your device to show up so you can add My Android Apps – Google Play to it: accounts – My new Android device not showing up in Google Play – Android Enthusiasts Stack Exchange.
