Remeha error code E5

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/04/28

Some notes as we got an error code 5 (the display showing E5) a while ago.

Our solution was to keep the reset button pressed for a few seconds, then wait for a “reboot” to happen.

Videos from someone else having searched for the E5 cause for 2 months:

  1. After 5 tries to fire up, it gives error E 5.
  2. For this particular device, the problem occurs multiple times a day with various intervals between ignitions.
  3. Rarely it generates error E6 in stead of E5.
  4. Most often it needs more than one but less than five ignition attempts, so then it does not generate an error.
  5. The actual cause is a too low ionisation current: the current needs to be between 3 and 9 microAmpere.

E6 was already hinting at a faulty transformer, but the ionisation current definitely confirms that.

Manuals (the first two are almost identical):

Need to contact these in case of trouble as they are experienced: loodgietersbedrijfjongen.nl

Later: we ran into the above problem as well; the problem was the ignition transformer that could not keep the gas ignition current between 3 and 9 µA. The solution was this Remeha part [WayBackRemeha ontstekingstrafo (incl. ionisatieelectrode) S100012 | Warmteservice. We got there after replacing the burner gasket ring [WayBackRemeha pakkingring voor brander S103172 | Warmteservice that often solves the problem, is much cheaper and should be replaced every 2 years anyway.

When PV Bean Counter stops publishing Sunny Boy 2500TL results to the net

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/04/17

Every once in a while, PV Bean Counter stops reporting results of by Sunny Boy 2500TL. Usually the problem is with the SUNNY EXPLORER software which has (at least) two irritating bugs:

  1. Easy to spot: it can truncate the SunnyExplorer.sx2 file
  2. Harder to spot: corrupted SunnyExplorer.sx2 file

The latter results in these log messages from PV Bean Counter:

9/2/2016 8:16:34 PM :T12 DeviceMgr_SE - Inf :DeviceMgr_SE: Sunny Explorer - CSV Export Failed
9/2/2016 8:16:34 PM :T12 DeviceMgr_SE - Inf :DeviceMgr_SE: UpdateFromDirectory - SunnyExplorer did not retrieve the expected date: 9/1/2016 12:00:00 AM
9/2/2016 8:16:34 PM :T12 DeviceMgr_SE - Inf :DeviceMgr_SE: UpdateFromDirectory - SunnyExplorer did not retrieve the expected date: 9/2/2016 12:00:00 AM

My usual follow up is to open the .sx2 file in Sunny Explorer. In this case this resulted in a MessageBox containing Cannot find Central Directory. It indicates that Sunny Explorer uses SharpZipLib and the .sx2 file is likely using ZIP compression.

In this case, the SunnyExplorer.sx2 file was not truncated, but filled with zero bytes.

Luckily that file gets backed-up often, so it was easy to restore:

  1. Stop the PV Bean Counter service
  2. Restore the .sx2 file
  3. Start the PV Bean Counter service
  4. Wait a while before reports start trickling in.

A while ago, I bumped into

Almost completed updating my AA battery tests sheet…  Some surprises in there if you’re still buying Alkaline AA’s…I’ve included some that I have a… – James Lewis – Google+

The list is at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HOV0JyhF5J6Cd3PmRCDg5eY8ytabSIEidQaJ_ryusXI/edit and has since then be updated.

One of my surprises is that most of the NiMh batteries have larger capacities can virtually all of the Alkaline ones.

Interesting how many fast charging stations there are near me…

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/03/31

I’ve added zoom level (z) and centre (ll) parameters to make the map easier viewable:

Replacement battery/Accu 9.6 V 2000 mAh for Bosh type 2607335461

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/03/27

Just in case I want a replacement battery/Accu 9.6 V 2000 mAh for Bosh type 2607335461, there are two:

For me the type doesn’t matter as my AL60DV 1411 chargers can charge both types if they are between 7.2 and 14.4 volts:

230 V safety on the work bench – Put your power supply in an old tablet container…

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/02/28

Great tip from Nelis Willers:

230 V safety on the work bench.
Put your power supply in an old tablet container. The high voltage is safely encapsulated and will not accidentally touch something. Of course don’t do this for a kW supply, only where low heat is generated, otherwise you might set a fire!
