On my research list: connecting Fritz!Box devices together into a virtual PBX

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/09/29

I’ve some Fritz!Box devices on various locations that each provide VoIP access and either ISDN or PSTN lines.

Wouldn’t it be cool to be able to join them together into a virtual PBX?

I’m not sure how it’s possible and what you need for it, so here are some links that should make my future research on this easier:

KPN CPS (carrier pre select) code is 1655

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/09/26

Since the CPS I used was increasing the subscription cost to above zero, the the price difference to KPN was too large, so I wanted to switch back and needed the KPN CPS code.

From [WayBackHet verschil tussen WLR en CPS I found out the CPS code for KPN is 1655.

Then I called 0800-1273 to set it back and then verified it was set back for all destinations on all ISDN numbers.

It’s time to research how to move away from ISDN anyway, but that’s a different story.

Open source app to detect bluetooth gas pump credit card skimmers – Skimmer Scanner – Android Apps on Google Play

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/09/15

Before you fill up your car, check if you potentially can be skimmed: Skimmer Scanner – Android Apps on Google Play

The app is open source at sparkfunX/Skimmer_Scanner: A mobile app for detecting bluetooth gas pump credit card skimmers.

A long article about reverse engineering these skimmers is at [WayBack] Gas Pump Skimmers – learn.sparkfun.com including tools to get the data out: [WayBackMPLAB PICkit 3 – PGM-09973 – SparkFun Electronics

W123 – Tacho-Reparatur – works for W116 odometer (kilometerteller) as well

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/09/11

Since the odometer of our W116 would stall every now and then, we had to repair it.  Luckily the instructions at W123 – Tacho-Reparatur [WayBack] work fine for a W116 as too.

It’s different between 450SEL and 450SEL 6.9 and contains a bunch of lightbulbs so for completeness some links that help fixing lighting issues:

One day I will find back my Casio 79QGS-39 Universal Calendar watch from the 1980s

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/09/08

I think it’s Jan Wildeboer that referred me to the vongestern Blog: Smartwatch 1986: Casio DBX-100 [WayBack] entry.

It’s about database watches (and also shows the DB-520 and DBC-610) which were of the first smart watch generations and reminded me I’ve misplaced my Casio 79QGS-39 Universal Calendar digital LCD watch from the same era (mine was chrome unlike some of the Casio 79QGS-39 images  around).

Back then smart watches were focusing on very few things, but did them well, unlike today where they try to be jack of all trades: Niemand braucht Computer in Uhren. Der Artikel fängt langsam an, aber macht gute Punkte zum Ende hin. – Kristian Köhntopp – Google+ [WayBack]

Hopefully one day I’ll find my smart watch back, get it working and can post some pictures. The battery should be easy to replace though:

Repurposing Old Smartphones for Home Automation | Linux.com | The source for Linux information

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/08/23

At the recent Embedded Linux Conference and OpenIoT Summit, Mozilla Technical Evangelist Dietrich Ayala proposed a simple and affordable solution to home automation: A discarded smartphone can handle some of the most useful home automation tasks without requiring expensive hubs and sensors — or risking data security in the cloud.

I’ve been awaiting talks like this for years basically because I didn’t take the time to try myself.

‘Nieuw-West heeft veel te bieden voor herhaalbezoekers’ – Opinie – PAROOL

Posted by jpluimers on 2017/08/21

‘Volgens mij gaat het niet om gebrek aan aanbod, maar om gebrek aan kénnis van het aanbod in Nieuw-West,’ schrijft Liesbeth van der Woud in een lezersbrief aan Het Parool.
