Where to watch for StackOverflow / StackExchange downtime status: @StackStatus, @TechCrunch, @HNTweets

Posted by jpluimers on 2014/02/17

Basically, stackstatus.net is not actively updated when severe things like DDoS happen. So the best way to be kept up to date is watch these links:

Vulcan Point Island: An island in a lake, inside an island, inside another lake inside an island inside the ocean.

Posted by jpluimers on 2014/02/17

I forgot who brought this up in one of my circles a while ago, but this is fun:

An island in a lake, inside an island, inside another lake inside an island inside the ocean.

From the outside in:

  1. Sea (South Chinese Sea/Philippine Sea/Pacific Ocean)
  2. Luzon island of the Philippines
  3. Taal Lake
  4. Volcano Island
  5. Main Crater Lake
  6. Vulcan Point Island

Isn’t the earth a magnificent planet (:

I know most Mac users now run Mac OS X, but back then it was called a Macintosh, had System as  OS, but you had the Finder and the Apple logo still  had colours (:

So here are the links:

Posted by jpluimers on 2014/02/15

I’m so glad I haven’t played around with the below two Windows Server Essentials versions: by default they break the DNS of your local network.

Avoid list:

  • Windows Server 2012 Essentials
  • Windows Server 2012 R2 essentials

Making SwiftKey my Default Keyboard (via: Android Forums)

Posted by jpluimers on 2014/02/15

Every time I reboot my Nexus 4, the Google keyboard is selected as default. But SwitftKey is way more productive for me.

This is how to make SwiftKey the default keyboard again:

Selected SwiftKey then hit the Gear to go into SwiftKey setting. When I did this a pop up window came up asking witch keyboard to use a default. I selected SwiftKey and after several reboots it is still default.

Google Play Services 4.2 versions I saw in the wild on Android

Posted by jpluimers on 2014/02/14

Now that the Google Play Services 4.2 have been rolled out to enough Android devices, and the Google Play Services Library version 15 is out, this is my list of Play Services 4.2 versions I have seen in the wild:

  • 4.2.34
  • 4.2.39 (997510-038)
  • 4.2.42 (1013934-034)

Sorry, I didn’t note the build number for 4.2.34.

Anyone that can help complete this list?
