Google Docs alternative for self-hosting or hosted usage: [Wayback/Archive] GitHub – cryptpad/cryptpad: Collaborative office suite, end-to-end encrypted and open-source.

The project started last month 12 years ago in 2014 as the “realtime collaborative visual editor with zero knowlege server” with the commit [Wayback/Archive] and so it begins · cryptpad/cryptpad@1508c7b · GitHub.

I’m currently testing Cryptpad for collaborative working. My insecurity appliance bingo sheet looks quite bland, I’m not entirely happy. This is because the ❌✅ emoji are displayed in black/white.

What do you think, should I shift from Google Docs? Is there a way to display colored emoji in Cryptpad Tables?

Definitely something to try as it covers a lot of document types and (especially the markdown slides) might very well be suited for presentations on conferences/workshops. I grabbed these links from [Wayback/Archive] CryptPad Review: Replacing Google Docs – Privacy Guides:

That review also mentions a few downsides which for me are nothing unexpected and certainly easy to live with:

  • Due to the nature of end-to-end encryption, it is slower.
  • There is no mobile or desktop app available at this time. CryptPad only runs in the browser (for now).

¹ yes using coloured backgrounds solved this really nicely: [Wayback/Archive] Dr. Christopher Kunz: “Hmmm. I guess this would work?…” – chaos.social

My guess is that Security appliance 2025 bingo scorecard will move soon from Google Docs at [Wayback/Archive] https://cku.gt/appbingo25 to another place (:
