Reminder: only do this over a trusted network (use VPN!)
Apple uses very different terminology than Microsoft, and even they went from Microsoft Terminal Services (and its client mstsc.exe) via Remote Desktop Services (often abbreviated to RDP) and since 2024 – from non-Windows clients – “Windows App“.
For Apple, there are various terms:
- Screen Sharing (using an extension of the Virtual Network Computing protocol usually abbreviated to VNC) not having a Wikipedia entry at all
- Remote Login (ssh/sftp, where ssh is short for Secure Shell and sftp for SSH File Transfer Protocol), also not having a Wikipedia entry
- Apple Remote Desktop (also based on the VNC protocol, is a more general remote management tool priced at ~EUR 80; most people dislike it )
So below are some links so I have an overview somewhere.
