For my link archive: [Wayback/Archive] dell r730 – Google Search because I first wanted to run a Dell PowerEdge R730 16 Bay SFF, but ended up using the Dell PowerEdge R730xd 24 Bay SFF (plus an additional two 2.5 inch devices in the back) running ESXi on it.

  Unfortunately for the R730, there is only one option which is M.2. The R730 does not have a M.2 connection on the motherboard, so you must purchase a separate PCIe to M.2 adapter that plugs into a PCIe slot. In this video we are using a Supermicro card with two M.2 NVMe drives. It is important to note that Dell 14th Generation Boss cards are not backwards compatible and will not work with the R730.

  You are correct, when I expand the part numbers K98XH and M48YR, the actual physical card is G8RRG CRD,SCTY,TRPM,2.0,13G
  It appears that M48YR was acquired differently, so they assigned it a different part number.

  I have Vmware ESXI 8.0 installed on a dell r730 server. I recently added two Samsung SSDs, I created a RAID 1 array. I created a datastore in Vmware. However, I noticed that it wasn’t detected as SSD.

  Edit: I was able to resolve this after running these commands via ssh into the ESXI host for which I first had to enable ssh service and enable esxi shell:
  esxcli storage hpp device set -d <Device ID would go here> -M true
  I confirmed it worked by running,
  esxcli storage hpp device usermarkedssd list
  esxcli storage core device list -d naa.61866da0bde4d6002b7ae7e7dea9b47c |grep -i ssd
  After which I rebooted the host and VOILA.\
