Somehow I find these hard to find back on-line, so here is a list for my easier reference
- Modifier key – Wikipedia
- Control key – Wikipedia, mostly described as Ctrl (Control or Ctl) and usually symbolised with a
^like ^ Ctrl (^ Control or ^ Ctl) though by now the official symbol is⎈, so the descriptions should be ⎈ Ctrl (⎈ Control or ⎈ Ctl). Note they can be translated like on German keyboards as Strg, ⇧ Strg or ⎈ Strg). - Shift key – Wikipedia Shift or ⇧ Shift.
- Alt key – Wikipedia Alt , ⎇ , or ⎇ Alt .
- AltGr key – Wikipedia AltGr or ⇮ AltGr.
- Option key – Wikipedia (on MacOS) Option, Alt, ⌥ Option, ⌥ Alt, or ⌥ Option Alt.
- Command key – Wikipedia (on MacOS) ⌘, ⌘ Command, Command, ⌘ Cmd, or Cmd.
- Menu key – Wikipedia (on Windows) ≣ Menu.
- Windows key – Wikipedia (on Windows) ⊞ Win.
- Meta key – Wikipedia (on various Unix systems) ◆ Meta.
- Hyper key – Wikipedia (on the Space-cadet keyboard – Wikipedia) ✦ Hyper.
- Super key – Wikipedia ❖ Super (usually equivalent to ⊞ Win or ⌘ Command).
- Fn key – Wikipedia Fn.
Most of the above link have examples of common key-combinations where the modifier keys are used for.
