Add these entries to your .vmx file:
MemTrimRate = "0"
sched.mem.pshare.enable = "FALSE"
prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = "TRUE"
Works in VMware Fusion 5, 6, and 7. Probably 8 too.
