I need to find a place to host “The Wiert G+ stream, formerly plus.google.com/+JeroenPluimers“.
Maybe i should do something like Lars is setting up:
I am setting up camp at WordPress.com, and importing my old G+ content there, using the Friends+Me Google+ Export tool. Whether this will be my permanent home, still remains to be seen. If you use …

The good news: Lars started a series of posts describing the process, so the reminder to myself: archive them in a list:

Not sure when this happened but the CIDR list is no more [WayBack] https://www.whatsapp.com/cidr.txt:
Dear partners,
Please note that we have migrated the latest IP pools of WhatsApp to Facebook Mobile Partner Portal. Feel free to browse to the Settings page of the portal and download the latest WhatsApp IP pool: https://fb.me/mpp_support
Further IP pool updates are also done through the portal and are no longer distributed via email or through WhatsApp web site.
If you have not yet registered on the Mobile Partner Portal or have difficulties accessing it - please request access through the following form and we'll be happy to assist: https://fb.me/mpp_access
For any technical requests please contact us through the Support section of the portal: https://fb.me/mpp_support
WhatsApp team
In the past it was the place to get the CIDR so you could either block or allow WhatsApp traffic: [earlier WayBack]
It is still widely cited as way to regulate WhatsApp traffic, for instance at these places:
Time to find an automated way to get the replacement list. Maybe the below helps (via [WayBack] Block facebook messenger and whatsApp on Dlink router – Super User)

“Bio can’t include ‘invalid characters'”
Oh well: some profile characters give you a “Bio can’t include ‘invalid characters'” error.
This is forbidden:
Makes things work in .NET, Win32, x64, C#, SQL, Visual Studio and Delphi. Married to a cancer survivor. Responsible for brother with IQ<50. @AdestMusica member.
But this is allowed:
Makes things work in .NET, Win32, x64, C#, SQL, Visual Studio and Delphi. Married to a cancer survivor. Responsible for brother with IQᐸ50. @AdestMusica member.
I solved it thanks to these links:
I’m not the only one bumping into this; you can not put imperial height either: [WayBack] eve peyser on Twitter: “WHY WONT TWITTER LET ME PUT MY HEIGHT IN MY BIO I SMELL A CONSPIRACY https://t.co/4CCNgNLTFu”
I tested ‘ and ” so they are not invalid any more.

Too bad, as it was fun while it lasted:
Even worse: the change was not announced, so people find out after the fact. A similar thing happened back in the “Press This” removal process (which got restored).
Some notes on “The WordPress bookmarklet was deprecated. Please delete it from your web browser.” because the `/wp-admin/press-this.php` based URLs look very similar.
The cool things about the “Request Feedback” were these:

Take out your data!
Before doing anything else: take out your data, especially the G+ data at takeout.google.com/settings/takeout, then download at takeout.google.com/settings/takeout/downloads:
TL;DR:
- export JSON, not HTML
- export often to get a feel for wat works fails
- download what works over time, then post-process it
- remember a download might be available only a week or so
- data is incomplete
- many platforms cannot (yet?) import G+ JSON
Think about a Google exit strategy
An excellent post on this is [WayBack] The Google Exit Strategy – alexreusch which I found via:
It looks like having a blog with a commenting system is not such a bad starting point at all…
Moving from G+
I have no really good idea where to go from G+. The sunset feels a lot like Google Reader, after which I switched to Feedly, which works pretty well, Wave and Inbox.
There is a [WayBack] Petition · Google, Inc: Don’t Shut Down Google Plus · Change.org, but if memory serves well, that did not help much for the other discontinued products.
So before in 9 months G+ ends up in Category:Discontinued Google services – Wikipedia, I am contemplating about alternatives.
Suddenly very relevant is the 2014 comic [WayBack] xkcd 1361: Google Announcement / [WayBack] 1361: Google Announcement – explain xkcd on the right (via [WayBack] XKCD 1361 – Kristian Köhntopp – Google+).
You can register your migration at the [WayBack] Google Plus Migration Directory Form form which will end up in [WayBack] Google Plus Migration Directory (Responses) – Google Sheets (via [WayBack] I made a form that will generate a spreadsheet with anyone’s information and destinations. Email field was added so you could edit your responses, but t… – John Lewis – Google+)
Your email will not end up in the migration directory, see [WayBack] Does Google collect survey participant’s email address? – Google Product Forums
Edit 20240819: the above Goo.Gl link died; it used to point to [Wayback/Archive] Google Plus Migration Directory.
What next?

Cool: [WayBack] Just wanted to tell that the Google+ Optimizer now has a cross post to Diaspora – Feature…. – Ole Albers – Google+.
Get it from [WayBack] Ghosttown – Optimizer – Chrome Web Store
The Google+ – Optimizer increases the user experience with Google+ until the bitter end…
With this extension you can modify and arrange your google+ stream just like you want.
Some of the Features:
* Remove unwanted content ("suggested contacts, youtube-comments,animated gifs...)
* Display additional content (stopwatch)
* Filter by Hashtag
* Autosave-Feature
* Bookmark-Feature
... and more
The first time you open a page on plus.google.com, you see this:

Then when you post a removable information bar:

That directs you to the configuration (either right click the icon, or follow http://hurz.me/gplusoptimizer), where in the main item, you can enter your diaspora host (in my case pluspora) information:

Especially HTC devices used to store part of the context information like this:
<HTCData><Twitter>id:11111111/friendof:00000000</Twitter></HTCData>
[WayBack] TweeterID – Twitter ID and username converter:
Convert any Twitter account’s username or @handle into its respective Twitter ID, or convert ID to username
You can also do the Twitter ID to @handle conversion by URL (at the time of writing, neither existed, which is intentional: replace your own ID there) [WayBack] permalinks – URL link to Twitter user with ID, not name – Stack Overflow:
I could not find a twitter URL that does the conversion the other way around.

Food for thought: [WayBack] Why Youtube’s algorithms push extreme content on every possible subject / Boing Boing.
the problems of Youtube’s recommender algorithms might be that they overdistil your preferences. Since they’re aiming for “engagement” — a word I am beginning to loathe with an unsettling level of emotion — the real problem with these algorithms is they’re constantly aiming to create an epic sense of drama and newness
