Logitech remotes for presenting

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/06/01

A few links on Logitech remotes for presenters.

I like how the spotlight can highlight portions of the screen, but I wish it had the LCD display timer of the R800 and R700.

The big problem of the Spotlight seems to be the stability of the Logitech software, both on Windows and on MacOS.

The R series (R800/R700/R500/R400) have lasers that do not reflected well by modern big screens.

A great review of the various presenters is at [WayBack] What’s the Best Logitech Pointer? – R400 vs R700 vs R800 – Sky Tech Lasers.

Certified Stealing Sh*t That Works Practitioners

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/05/05

A large part of my work is not how to search blindly, but how to actually find things, assess what parts of them are useful, then use the bits that are.

A big reason for writing this blog in the first place, is find back the stuff that worked so next time the search is easier.

So, share the CSSTWP information from [WayBack] Certified Stealing Sh*t That Works Practitioners if you like:

Certified Stealing Sh*t That Works Practitioners

CSSTWPs have come to value:
Trying new things over sticking with what we know
Trusting experience over third-party certification
Learning from peers over training courses
Choosing effective practices over MethodologyBrand™ allegiance

LED bulbs in IKEA track lighting systems lie SANSA or LINA – SM2YER Goran’s Homepage

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/05/01

It is easy to replace the halogen bulbs in IKEA track lighting systems like IKEA SANSA or IKEA LINA by LED bulbs (Sansa uses 5.3mm spaced MR16 fitting compatible with both GX5.3 and GU5.3 bulbs, I think LINA uses the same): [WayBack] SM2YER Goran’s Homepage.

There are many other fittings; [WayBack] LED fitting welke moet ik kiezen? | Lampfittingen overzicht has a good list, mentioning these:

  • E14
  • E27
  • GU10
  • MR11 (which has slightly thicker pins than G4 and GU4)
  • G4 and GU4
    (with varying pin thickness)
  • G5.3, GX5.3, GU5.3
    (with varying pin thickness)
  • G6.35, GX6.535, GY6.35, GZ6.35
    (with varying pin thickness)
  • MR16
  • G9
  • GU10
  • AR111

The problem is the power supplies. They do not like the low wattage, or even burn with low wattage. Two solutions:

  • Use at least one 10W bulb, or
  • Use a 12V power supply from a laptop or other device that delivers far less power.

Twitter thread unroll so you can read tweet storm on one page without distraction: ThreadReaderApp.com a.k.a. tttthreads.comtttthreads.com

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/04/24

I am have been using ThreadReaderApp.com – and more so since G+ went belly up – but forgot to schedule a post on it, so here it is:

[WayBack] Show HN: Unroll Twitter threads for easy reading | Hacker News:

I made this new service called Thread Reader that given a first tweet from a twitter thread will return a carefully designed web page with the full [WayBack] Tweetstorm unrolled.

It comes with two “bots” – one that answer people who mention “@tttthreads unroll” replying to the first tweet of a threads and give them a link to the unrolled story – the second that search twitter for “#threads” and check if it is a valid thread (> 5 tweets) and if so post a unrolled version back to the author (limited to a few post per hour to avoid to be too spammy)

The stack is good old LAMP using the PHP silex micro framework and of course Twitter API

[WayBack] Thread Reader Thread Reader helps you discover and read the best of Twitter Threads

Peter Drucker: The Rules of Effectiveness – Personal Growth – Medium

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/04/22

This is so simple and so hard at the same time: [WayBackPeter Drucker: The Rules of Effectiveness – Personal Growth – Medium:

  1. Design the Practice, Not the Person
This means you have to set schedules when to do things and for how long.
This is hard in an ever changing, ever interrupting world where tasks are of tough to estimate duration.
  2. Embrace Purposeful Abandonment
Less+Less==More; which implies you should do a lot less things to be effective. Skip the things you do not really need.
  3. Switch From Exploring to Exploiting
For me it was hard to understand, especially not being in my 20ies any more for a long time: high reward risky paths are better to be pursued than risk-averse paths.

The cool thing though: Peter Drucker found about all these during his life which was mostly (1909-2005) before computing and social network became ubiquitous.

So yes: the above should be possible in an agile environment.

Some quick links on Korian in The Netherlands as they were/are? buying a maze construction of care companies that were on the edge of bankruptcy

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/04/16

A few quick notes, so I at least have some links.

According to the ACM decision PDF, BluePrint Group B.V. and it’s subsidiaries, including de Statenhof in Leiden, were on the verge of bankruptcy in January 2020, and the Korian SA owned structure is supposed to save them.

Edit 20200424

The central phone number of ECR the statenhof (+31883280110) did not get answered for a few days and has now been disconnected by the phone provider. The phone number now listed at Google is +31885057000 which gets you to Ontzorgd Wonen. When being transferred to the Statenhof, you consistently get an “in use” tone.

The old phone number is still listed in many places, like for instance [WayBack] www.latest.facebook.com/DeStatenhof and the email signatures of their personnel. The new phone number is also at [WayBack] De Statenhof Leiden | Wonen met zorg | Ontzorgd Wonen Groep.

Family relations of ECR de Statenhof

These lists are not complete, as I focus on ECR the Statenhof in oder to understand where it will be in a future structure.
