To me it does not matter if you call me artist, artistic, or person with artism. Oh, I meant autist, autistic, or person with autism.

Posted by jpluimers on 2022/03/04

Similarly to Bianca Toeps, I always wondered why some are called percussionist, programmer, brother, student, or deaf and there is no discussion to be call them “person who plays percussion instruments”, “person who programs”, “person having a sibling”, “person who studies”, or “person who cannot hear”.

There is a lot of discussion about autism though: very long threads on why someone should be called a certain way.

To me it does not matter, so you can call me all of this:

  • artist
  • artistic
  • person with artism
  • autist
  • autistic
  • person with autism
  • percussionist
  • person who plays percussion instruments
  • programmer
  • brother
  • person who has at least one sibling
  • person who programs
  • student
  • person who studies
  • deaf
  • person who cannot hear (with the left ear)

Yes, “Programming is an art form that fights back”.

Note I heard this quote the first from Kudzu, and since then learned it looks like it is by T.C. Wilson, but I am still not sure which T.C. Wilson.

Some mentions of the quote:

Happy 20th Anniversary, .NET!

Posted by jpluimers on 2022/02/13

I almost missed this: [Wayback/Archive] Happy 20th Anniversary, .NET! – .NET Blog.

Given I am still recovering from the long period of cancer treatments, I am glad that Beth Massi reminded me (a “thank you” is below the signature):

https://twitter.com/BethMassi/status/1492893829535514634

To keep the story about myself short: currently I am cancer free, long term (i.e. 10 years) looks dim, but my mental focus has recovered and I am getting joy again doing technical stuff. I am still working on the increasing my mental and physical endurance, so real work is not yet possible but unlike half a year ago, I am confident I will be able to eventually.

Back to the .NET story (as I have learned when to conserve energy): I kept track of Anders Hejlsberg ever since Turbo Pascal 1.0 on CP/M (see The calculators that got me into programming (via: calculators : Algorithms for the masses – julian m bucknall)) and when after the Visual J++ lawsuits things a first got a bit too silent to my liking.

Creating shortcut URLs for hangout conversations with specific people: the GAIA ID

Posted by jpluimers on 2022/02/04

GAIA is the Google Accounts and ID Administration system, and the GAIA ID is the identifier to uniquely refer to an account on the Google platform.

With the GAIA ID, you can construct a Hangouts URL that identifies a discussion with that person.

Getting the GAIA ID for a user on hangouts

In the past, people Google Plus to obtain the GAIA ID. When searching to get the GAIA ID, most results use this method, but it does not work any more as Google Plus was shut down for personal use in April 2019.

To get your own GAIA ID, the easiest method is to follow the steps in [Wayback] Create direct link to Google Hangouts chat – Web Applications Stack Exchange:

The easiest way I know of right now to find Gaia ID is actually to go to get.google.com/albumarchive and the 21 numbers that reveal itself once you go to Album Archive will be your own and you can use it.

Once you get the id, it easy to create your hangout link.

https://hangouts.google.com/chat/person/[Gaia ID]

where [Gaia Id] = 1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (21 digits)

To get the GAIA ID from someone you had a hangouts conversation with [Wayback] How To Find The Google ID (Gaia ID) Of An Email, And The User’s Google Maps Reviews And Public Albums – Webint Master:

The easiest way to find the user’s GAIA ID is through the Hangouts web-app. enter https://hangouts.google.com/ and create a New Conversation in the contact area on the left.

Paste the email address you want to explore to the search bar. You’ll get the user card on Hangouts.

Right-click on the user’s card, and select Inspect. It will open you the developer tools of the site on the right.

Look for hovercard-oid (make sure the email you searched appears under it after hovercard-email) and copy the 21-digits ID.

Constructing the Hangouts URL with a GAIA ID

Now that you have the GAIA ID, you can construct the hangouts URL, for instance https://hangouts.google.com/?action=chat&pi=1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for GAIA ID 1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

The https://hangouts.google.com/chat/person/1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx mentioned above will redirect you to https://hangouts.google.com/?action=chat&pi=1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Gisteren 3 jaar terug: Ongeval in restaurant Alrijne Leiderdorp – Alrijne Ziekenhuis

Posted by jpluimers on 2022/02/01

When having a bad day, fool your brain and listen to happy songs, go dance or jumb around, and force a smile: your brain cannot help and feel better.

Posted by jpluimers on 2022/01/28

Posted by jpluimers on 2022/01/28

Posted by jpluimers on 2022/01/28

De meesten hebben een veel sterkere invloed van de criticus in hun hoofd dan de lieverd. Geef de laatste ook eens aandacht, bijvoorbeeld door vaker te lachen.

For my link archive:

Problem was that the privacy statement was not on a separate page during DigiD logon: you had to copy/paste to word in order to save it.
