Ain’t history extra lovely when someone discovers the original drawings of what her dad had sent to space?
Back in the 1970s, Frank Drake did two memorable things: he helped design the Pioneer plaque (sent to space in 1972 on Pioneer 11) containing among other things pulsar map, and later helped design the 1977 Voyager Golden Record (sent to space in 1977 on both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2) again containing the pulsar map. In between, he helped designed Arecibo message broadcasted to space in 1974.
And guess what: today is the 50th anniversary of that message being broadcasted.
Almost 10 years ago, in 2016 his daughter Nadia Drake found back the original drawing of the pulsar map: Read the rest of this entry »

TL;DR: the [Wayback/Archive] Self Service Repair – Apple Support parts are very expensive; having an expert solder them is way more affordable
Last year, [Wayback/Archive] Official (by_APPLE): Mac mini (2024) Repair Manual : r/macmini already had the part numbers for Mac Mini M4 SSD upgrades which I put in this table (staggered staggered to emphasise the M4 and M4 Pro differences) with prices for the M4 upgrades after receiving back the return credit (which I still need to figure out what you need to return):

For cleaning an Apple Silicon MacBook there were already solutions to either disable the keyboard or to blacken the screen:
- [WaybackSave/Archive] GitHub – shauninman/Little-Fingers: Little Fingers lets you lockdown keyboard and trackpad input with a globally accessible keyboard shortcut (open source)
- [Wayback/Archive] folivora.ai – Great Tools for your Mac! KeyboardCleanTool blocking all keyboard and TouchBar input. (free download)
- [Wayback/Archive] GitHub – jacklandrin/OnlySwitch: ⚙️ All-in-One menu bar app, hide 💻MacBook Pro’s notch, dark mode, AirPods, Shortcuts (open source and available as [Wayback/Archive] only-switch — Homebrew Formulae)
In Version 2.3, Only Switch brings a new feature, Screen Test. It provides a pure color view in full-screen mode, you can check dead pixels via it. Press the left and right arrow keys, the color will change from black, white, red, green, and blue. This functionality also can be used for screen cleaning, as you can see the stains on the screen.
For keeping a Mac turned off however, there hadn’t been a solution for a long time.
Now there is, but you need to have the most recent update of macOS Sequoia 15 by adding a nvram BootPreference setting: [Wayback/Archive] Prevent a Mac laptop from turning on when opening its lid or connecting to power – Apple Support

Over the years, WordPress started to beautify more and more text thereby malforming many (read thousands) of my older blog posts.
An example is this:
--jeroen
is now rendered as
–jeroen
The two hypen-minus signs or -- have become a en-dash or –, not even an em-dash or — that is is double the width of an en-dash.
So after figuring out the cause, I asked if one could change it for a WordPress.com blog backed by a premium account: [Wayback/Archive] Jeroen Wiert Pluimers on Twitter: “Hi @wordpressdotcom, how do I globally disable wptexturize for a paid wiert.wordpress.com blog (it has Premium subscription)? Over the years, it has malformed more and more of my text which I don’t want (as it is way too much work to re-visit thousands of blog posts).”
Unbelievably, the answer is no!
So WordPress.com mandatorily changes the display of all your old Premium blog posts and the only solution they offer is to upgrade for another USD ~17 per month to disable it.

[Wayback/Archive] Keyboard – Move focus to the shortcuts bar – Google Chrome Community was a great question that I had myself for a long time.
TL;DR: On Windows, you can either cycle focus using F6, Alt + Shift + b to use the keyboard for getting focus to the bookmarks bar.
This is not officially documented for Windows/Linux at [Wayback/Archive] Chrome keyboard shortcuts – Computer – Google Chrome Help:
