Why do so many of the small heatsinks use 3M 9448A Double Coated Tissue Tape?

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/08/14

I wonder why so many of the small heatsinks you can buy on for instance Amazon or ebay, use 3M 9448A Double Coated Tissue Tape.

The 3M 8805 Thermally Conductive Adhesive Transfer Tape is so much better (or the twice as thick 3M 8810 Thermally Conductive Adhesive Transfer Tape).

The first is for just sticking, the second for sticking and heat transfer:

Great tool: the Toptal Colorblind Web Page Filter

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/08/06

Colorblind Web Page Filter

Colorblind Web Page Filter

A great tool I found out about a while ago [Archive.is] Toptal Color Blind Filter.

It shows the original web page and the rendering for various types of color blindness:

  • protan -> Protanopia: red/green color blindness; anomalous red cones
  • deutan -> Deutanopia: red/green color blindness; anomalous green cones
  • tritan -> Tritanopia: blue/yellow color blindness; anomalous blue cones
  • grey -> Greyscale/achromatopsia: quick check for all forms of colorblindness

Because of a comment at [WayBack] Forums… https://embarcaderomonitoring.wiert.me/ – JWP – Google+, I used Toptal to notify Uptime robot that their status pages are hard for color blind people: [WayBackJeroen Pluimers on Twitter: “Some color blind people indicated to me that @uptimerobot status pages are hard for them to read. Examples are for @EmbarcaderoTech as they have subdomains being offline often: …”, so lets look at how people with various types of color blindness see embarcaderomonitoring.wiert.me :

Dutch public broadcast Teletext in plain text: Tekst TT

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/08/03

This page always has the Dutch public broadcast teletekst page 101 in plain text: Tekst TT.

It is sources from the teletext mode teletekst.nl, which usually is the fastest fact checked public news source in The Netherlands.

[WayBack] Tekst TT FAQ:

Searching github commits

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/07/29

Finding the github commit search page was not obvious to me as the main page only allows searching for repositories, and commit pages insides repositories do not have a search box:

Luckily there are two search pages that can search issues:

You can get to both by stumbling on [WayBack] About searching on GitHub – User Documentation, then clicking “Search using a visual interface”

The first search page has built-in help which I have included below, though not explaining how to search for commits which are in [WayBack] Searching commits – User Documentation, and certainly does not tell you need to add type=commitsto the search box.

LOW-TECH MAGAZINE

Posted by jpluimers on 2020/07/16

Below is a cool site that I do not just list because I like the site, but also that they have a solar powered server running a low-tech version of it.

[WayBack] LOW-TECH MAGAZINE

Doubts on progress and technology

It actually started as a Dutch site, is ran by a Belgian now living in Barcelona. This means many articles are available in various languages, not just English and Dutch, but many also in French, German, Spanish, and Italian. Some articles are only available in English or Dutch.

Via: [WayBack] The last c’t Magazin +c’t magazin mentioned lowtechmagazine.com and I have already spent hours reading various articles there … – Thomas Mueller (dummzeuch) – Google+

Here are some more links.
