I’m not yet sure what the exact cause is, but at irregular intervals when clicking on Google Plus links, they show as “403. That’s an error.”.
They appear both when I have multiple WAN connections or a single WAN connection, which leads me to suspect that G+ doesn’t cope well when
- you have a lot (dozens) of Google related pages open (Drive, Mail, Search, Documents, etc) as Google Plus is embedded in each of them
- you rapidly browse through your G+ backlog (the G+ counter is > 50 since you follow a lot of people/communities and you quickly do catch-up on them)
In a future post, I will explain how I created the workaround, but here it is:

Basically it translates links
The latter was the original link I clicked in the first place. The former what G+ comes up with.
After a while, G+ comes back to its senses and allows the latter links again, so the page allows you to parse the former then put them in a list like this:
One decoded URL per list-item.

A long time ago I setup to post from Google+ to Twitter.
Somewhere close to spring 2015, that stopped with a G+ tweet about FireDAC which linked to my G+ post about it.
I could not find out however how I initiated that post forwarding, so I did some searching, then decided to go the IFTTT route: 10 Easy Steps To Automate Your Google Plus To Twitter Postings – Social Media Strategies & Techniques For Business Professionals.
The page does not allow you to select text or right click, but you can view the source (for instance in Chrome with view-source:http://www.garyhyman.com/10-easy-steps-to-automate-your-google-plus-to-twitter-postings/) so I’ll summarise:
- Note your Google+ numeric ID. For me these were 31 digits. Lets call it ####.
- Append the ID to http://gplus-to-rss.appspot.com/rss/ so you get http://gplus-to-rss.appspot.com/rss/####, then verify it indeed returns an RSS feed
- Login to ifttt.com (create an account first if you don’t have one), then create a new THIS source from the RSS feed icon.
- Select the link from 2. as source.
- Click on the THAT link, and select Twitter (you might need to enable IFTTT for Twitter).
- From the Twitter list, select “post a tweet”.
- Amend the text if needed (remember you only have 140 characters!), then press Create Action.
- Test (you might need to wait for about 15 minutes): indeed it worked as my G+ post got picked up by a tweet pointing to it about 15 minutes later.

This is getting ridiculous: G+ now completely stopped working. No CAPTCHA every couple of seconds after my laptop wakes up, but the screenshot below.
The “Unusual traffic from your computer network” – Search Help isn’t helping much either.
My computer isn’t sending automated queries. The Google related tabs (some 50+) in Chrome are, as they frantically try to refresh themselves when my laptop wakes up.
This is a Google and Chrome design decision:
- each tab runs in a separate process
- each tab keeps being active even when not visible
- Google chooses to have each Google related tab to talk to Google Plus
It’s not my choice that this overloads the G+ system, so don’t bug me with that!

A while ago, i came across this interesting question: Are there optimal days/hours to post questions in order to get visibility and answers? – Meta Super User.
The recommended time 1400 UTC is related to my blog post scheduling behaviour.
Virtually all my blog posts are either (when both apply at the same time, that is pure coincidence):
I schedule posts on Monday through Friday:
Difference between 0600 UTC and 1400 UTC
So why the time difference of about 8 hours between 0600 UTC and 1400 UTC?
That has to do with the public I generally interact with: software developers speaking English, mainly living in European and USA, with a minority in India, Asia and down-under.
- At 0600 UTC, most Europeans are about to wake up or just arrived at work, so they get fresh content. Still quite a few people from India and Asia are up (returning from work) can read it the same day it was posted. And virtually everyone in the USA is still sleeping, so they get fresh content too.
- At 1400 UTC, most Europeans are at work, people at the USA East Coast just started working and the rest of the USA is waking up and (hopefully) going to work. So you get a huge group of on-line people online with a high chance if comment/answer interaction on your question: great for getting answers on the same day.

If you also want to see the posts in ‘What’s Hot’ and Communities in single-column, then go to Account Settings -> Google + and select the Accessibility checkbox as shown below:
Enjoy the uncluttered and headache-free single-column layout of Google+ posts!
Now I can enjoy all G+ streams to be in one column format so it is easier to track the order of posts.

Ever since I started G+, I was frustrated by the lack of markdown you can use.
Luckily, I found this post by Ahmed Zeeshan titled Google+ | The Early Adopter’s Guide Note.
It is not only the content of his post, but also that he made available the source template available, so it becomes much easier to start writing a G+ post.
Well done Ahmed!
