Idea: create an Apple ][ bot for Mastodon like BBC Micro Bot
Regrettably, I don’t have the energy to pull this off myself, cancer was a bitch and I have less than half the energy I used fo have, but for anyone interested here are some links that could get you started:
- ApplesSoft BASIC code which includes assembly language: Twitter bot AppleIIBot could run it!
- Pi Day: the results of electron.greg on OldBytes Space posting the BASIC program to test Floating Point which has this bit for a good Apple ][ emulator running in the web browser:
- [Wayback/Archive] GitHub – ct6502/apple2ts: Apple II Emulator in TypeScript · GitHub which only started in 2021 is great:
Which is also available as an Electron based Desktop app: [Wayback/Archive] GitHub – ct6502/apple2ts-app · GitHub
- [Wayback/Archive] Apple2TS Emulator – CT6502 has the installers for the app that run on Windows, MacOS or Linux.
On BBC emulation and BBC Micro Bot:
- [Wayback/Archive] GitHub – 8bitkick/BBCMicroBot: Runs your toot on an 8-bit computer emulator · GitHub
- [Wayback/Archive] BBC Micro Bot – Creative Retro Coding
- [Wayback/Archive] BBC Micro Bot :mastodon: (@bbcmicrobot@mastodon.me.uk) – mastodon.me.uk
- [Wayback/Archive] Dominic Pajak (@DominicPajak@sfba.social) – SFBA.social (author of BBC Micro Bot)
- [Wayback/Archive] VirtualBeeb – BBC Micro 3D simulation (also by DominicPajak)
- [Wayback/Archive] GitHub – scarybeasts/beebjit: A very fast BBC Micro emulator. · GitHub
- [Wayback/Archive] Owlet BBC BASIC Editor
For creating an Apple ][ bot, go with the 8bitkick/BBCMicroBot, find there it binds to the BBC emulation, write a layer to plug the ct6502/apple2ts in, then find a place to run the contraption.
The reason I suggest using ct6502/apple2ts is that it already has the ability to paste code, and create screenshots. Not yet video, but that might be doable as well.
I think DominicPajak would likely answer questions to get anyone going.
The above links are about running this in an emulated Apple ][ or newer machine, but another way would to run this off actual Apple hardware. There is a Mastodon implementation for that, so here are some more links:
