MacOS (at least 2023 and younger): solution for (TrueType) fonts added through MacOS built-in Font Book not showing up in Pages or Preview

Posted by jpluimers on 2026/01/05

It took me a few queries to find the correct online solution for this problem: after adding a TrueType (and it’s extension: OpenType) font using the built-in MacOS Font Book, they do not show up in Pages or Preview, not even after validating the fonts in Font Book.

Solutions:

  1. reboot (found this out myself)
  2. killing the fontd font daemon from the Activity Monitor
  3. restart font daemon (found out via the link below)
    launchctl kickstart -k gui/`id -u`/com.apple.xtyped

The last one does not work on my Apple Silicon machine, the first two work fine.

For Preview, you have to Force Quit it then start it (so it re-opens all the previous files) to take effect.

I needed this, because I

Barcodes van statiegeldflessen

Posted by jpluimers on 2025/05/29

Belastingdienst: Postadres doorgeven

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/12/30

CyberChef: The Cyber Swiss Army Knife – a web app for encryption, encoding, compression and data analysis.

Posted by jpluimers on 2022/06/23

[Wayback/Archive.is] CyberChef:

a simple, intuitive web app for carrying out all manner of “cyber” operations within a web browser. These operations include simple encoding like XOR or Base64, more complex encryption like AES, DES and Blowfish, creating binary and hexdumps, compression and decompression of data, calculating hashes and checksums, IPv6 and X.509 parsing, changing character encodings, and much more.

Jilles also pointed to the solving part in [Archive.is] Jilles🏳️‍🌈 on Twitter: “See also, for solving: SCWF… “

The [Wayback/Archive.is] Solve Crypto with Force! needs to run without most script blockers, so best run it in an anonymous/private browser window.

For WiFi guest networks with a fixed SSID: QR code – Wikipedia

Posted by jpluimers on 2021/10/06

Access Denied

Access Denied

I knew it was possible to generate QR codes to access quest networks (as the QR code has credentials) for WiFi networks having a fixed SSID.

I just never bothered, but did when needed home care with quite a few different people providing the care.

Generating was easier than I anticipated, though I hoped I just could put the parameters in a URL and fire off to get a page including the QR code.

Alas, the pages I found require you to enter the SSID name and key/password phrase.

That’s OK: I have saved the PNG files for our network and my brother’s as images so I can put them on-line, and printed them out so guests can scan and use the network at once.

Here we go:

  • 124 network Access Denied, key 2171TB24
  • 171 network Disconnected, key 1060NP71

KIX-code: informatie en downloaden | PostNL

Posted by jpluimers on 2021/08/20

Note that in order to install the KIX font on macOS/OS X/Mac OS, you

Home – Outpan – GTIN to product attribute mapping

Posted by jpluimers on 2018/04/26

On my research list: Home – Outpan as it is a key-value store of EAN (actually GTIN, so including GS1 UPC, EAN which means barcodes like UPC-12, EAN-8, EAN-13 and ITF-14).

  • [WayBackGlobal Trade Item Number – Wikipedia
  • [WayBackAPI Documentation – Outpan Developers

    Legacy API

    Get Product Information

    GET https://api.outpan.com/v2/products/[GTIN]?apikey=[YOUR API KEY]

    Add Product Name

    POST https://api.outpan.com/v2/products/[GTIN]/name?apikey=[YOUR API KEY]

    Required POST parameters:

name: The name you would like to add for this product.

    Add Product Attribute

    POST https://api.outpan.com/v2/products/[GTIN]/attribute?apikey=[YOUR API KEY]

    Required POST parameters:

name: Name of the attribute you would like to add for this product.

value: Value for the attribute you would like to add for this product.

    • [GTIN] is the barcode number (ISBN, EAN, UPC, …) of the product you’re looking up.
    • All API calls must be done via HTTPS. Plain HTTP calls will be rejected.

CodeRage Mobile day 2 QA

Posted by jpluimers on 2013/06/19

I had a bit of trouble getting into CodeRage Mobile: somehow the confirmation email never reached the pluimers.com servers. After retrying today, @EmbarcaderoTech sent a GotoMeeting link that worked.

Later I will try to trace back about the mail issue (:

I’m in now, and since I usually loose the QA information, here is a dump of the QA for today so far.

Will try to find time for post editing and getting the URLs clickable.

Welcome to CodeRage Mobile! Read the rest of this entry »
