Spoken @ Delphi 2009 interactive briefing on April 1st, 2009 (no joke!) on migrating from Delphi 2007 to Delphi 2009, and from Delphi 5 to Delphi 2006/2007

Posted by jpluimers on 2009/04/26

Oosterkamp training | consultancy (the company that I used to co-own before partnering in better office benelux), together with Barnsten (the CodeGear / Embarcadero representative in the benelux) organized a Delphi 2009 interactive briefing on the evening of April 1st, 2009.

That wasn’t a joke, and we had good attendance with interesting questions.

I did a session on migrating to the most current Delphi version.

The download actually contains two sets of presentations and samples and some extras.

  1. A presentation of a methodic migration from Delphi 5 to Delphi 2006/2007 that I assisted at a big Dutch financial (Nationale Nederlanden) where the project manager had the guts of not outsourcing this to India, but in stead did it in The Netherlands in a third of the man hours and less than half the time (which is really good consering that a 100+ applications had to be migrated).
Mosf ht these samples compile from Delphi 5 and up.
In addition, it contains a mechanism to dyanmically (at run-time!) translate your Delphi RTL/VCL resources  into Dutch. I need to check this mechanism for Delphi 2009 though.
  2. A presentation I did during EKON 2008 about the migration between Delphi 2007 and Delphi 2009 which focuses on the breaking change of Char and string to be full Unicode data types in Delphi 2009.
These samples compile from Delphi 5 and up.
  3. The extra’s are on class helpers. Some people in the audience were asking questions about that, so I quickly grabbed together a few of them that I used in various projects.
These samples compile from Delphi 2006 and up.

The zip file with everything in it is on-line now.

Note that the readme is in Dutch, but the rest is in Enligsh.
