Scientists Map The Parts Of The Body Where Touching Is Okay

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/04/19

I wonder what these 2015 heat maps are like now that the Covid-19 crisis seems to be behind us (but for how long?): is shaking hands OK again or do you still perform non-physical greetings?

Missende vaccinaties?

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/04/15

  5. Mazelen zat pas sinds 1976 in het rijksvaccinatieprogramma

Bereavement or grief do not just take place after death, adverse life changing events are also cause for them.

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/04/12

Below are some Dutch messages around bereavement and grief that take place before someone dies: it is important to be aware that adverse life changing events are also reasons for those emotions. Besides patients and their close ones, also medical professionals and care takers can grief as they too need to find a way to adjust to the new situation.

[Wayback/Archive] Manu Keirse: ‘De zorgverlener rouwt mee’ – Dutch Health Hub

A related English post is [Wayback/Archive] How Survivors Can Cope With Grief After Cancer | Cancer.Net

When you first learned of your cancer diagnosis, grief may have been one of the many feelings you experienced. It is natural to grieve when we go through loss or change—whether it is the loss of who you were before your diagnosis or the loss of physical body parts. And since cancer often results in many losses—expected and unexpected—grief is naturally part of the experience.

Ivan Kuleshov on GitHub – Uptime-Lab/KVM-rack-stand-for-16-Mac-minis

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/04/11

In-rackIf you ever need a large bunch of Mac minis in a data center, then start reading at [Wayback/Archive] GitHub – Uptime-Lab/KVM-rack-stand-for-16-Mac-minis.

The repository by Ivan Kuleshov has all information you need, including scripts for Pi-KVM, and 3D printing STL source files.

It was covered in [Wayback/Archive] The MagPi issue 139 — The MagPi magazine (direct [Wayback/Archive] MagPi139.pdf; it’s too large for [Wayback] Goole Docs on-line viewing).

“Skiff – Private, encrypted, secure email – 10 GB free” was too good to be true: discontinued (“sunsetting”) at 2024-08-09

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/04/09

Skiff (email service) – Wikipedia already mentioned them as too good to be true for a while:

It launched in 2021 and was developed in San Francisco, California. In November 2023, it reached its own record of almost 2 million users (17 months since launch).

In a 2023 article, PCMAG reviewed Skiff pointing that Skiff offers “End-to-end encryption for email, collaboration, and calendar”, making complements to the fact of its services being free and easy to use (while being available as Apps for macOS, Android, and iOS).

This was all in the midst of me trying to find another place for our mail than GMail, and I am considering Proton Mail (which is profitable and offers both paid and free plans).

I had heard about Skiff Mail, and was lucky to not have included them on the shortlist as mid February, the above Wikipedia articled was updated to contain these two sections:

How to Block Ads on Discord (Mostly) | Lifehacker

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/04/09

Since about a week, Discord started showing ads. I am pretty sure the default setting is against GDPR regulations.

Lifehacker indicated how to disable them. I added numbered steps for readability:

How to turn off Discord ads

Discord doesn’t make it super clear, but there is a way to disable these in-game rewards advertisements, as well as the tracking that goes along with them. To start,

  1. open Discord,
  2. then head to Settings > Privacy & Safety.
  3. Here, disable the toggle next to In-game rewards (aka Quests).

Be aware: do not skip MacOS full upgrades (as you might miss out crucial firmware updates)

Posted by jpluimers on 2024/04/08

One of the odd things with Apple computers it that firmware updates are part of the MacOS updates.

I have bumped into this myself where I skipped an upgrade, then the Mac would not recognise certain media formatted with Apple File System – Wikipedia using intermediate versions of MacOS.

The intermediate versions of MacOS had introduced some firmware changes the newer MacOS version upgrade did not apply.

[Wayback/Archive] Bradán Lane on X: “@jpluimers @jilles_com I have a DYMO Rhino 6000. “New” they are pricy but the 6000 and 5200 are often on eBay at really good prices. I have used the USB interface on it for automation and to upload custom graphics.”

This was in a response thread started by [Wayback/Archive] Jilles.com which you will find further below.
